It is an excellent trope for all the characters to show off their powers as well as to introduce new characters. These new characters offer new challenges and also show off a plethora of abilities that would have otherwise gone unexplored or taken a lot longer to introduce.

WhyYu Yu Hakusho‘s Dark Tournament Arc trumpsDragon BallSuper’s Tournament of Power

Now let’s get to why the Dark Tournament arc still stands superior toDragon BallSuper’s Tournament of Power. InDragon Ball, the tournament arc was used simply to show off the powers of different characters. Yu Yu Hakusho‘s Dark Tournament Saga was not only about action scenes and battles. It brought Team Urameshi together as they slowly began to trust each other. The tournament showed how both humans and demons can work together. It shows the character development of each of the team’s members, and fans began to route for them.

The saga was also an eye-opening experience for Team Urameshi and Yusuke, who were thrust into a place with bloodthirsty demons who were simply not on the same level as them. Yusuke’s battle against the younger Toguro brother taught him what the desire for power can do to someone. It was during this saga that Yusuke realized strength was meant to protect rather than destroy.
