Following a leak a few weeks back we learned yesterday that theXbox Series X and Series S expansion cards will sell for a costly $219.99. While this is definitely steep pricing especially if you put into perspective that one could buy a new Series S for only $80 more, for those that have the funds you can now pre-order from numerous major retailers likeBest Buy,GameStop,Target, andthe Microsoft store.
The proprietary expansion card will only be available at a 1 TB storage capacity, but it will be beneficial in the long run with next-gen Xbox games only being downloadable on the console SSD. This card will expand either system with that terabyte of storage. For those worried at the sound of that, you will still be able to download any Xbox title on an external USB hard drive, but games optimized for the Series X or S will only be playable if it is moved to the consoles SSD. With these cards being proprietary to the systems, I wouldn’t expect a major discount for a long while post-launch. The expansion card is an impressive piece of tech being able to have so much store on a Solid State Drive in such a small package. There is also no news as to whether Xbox and Seagate are working to get cards with bigger capacity sizes down the line, but again, I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
According tothe official Seagate website, the card will be available at other retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Newegg some point down the line. It seems that their listings have yet to appear on their respective sites. The Xbox Seagate expansion card will release on November 10 alongside the Xbox Series X and Series S.
