When it comes to battle anime, World Trigger is often left out of the discussion — even though the show’s three-season run has introduced not only some of the best strategic fights in all anime but also some of the most down-to-earth characters you’ll find in any action show.

Battle Shonenare known for telling stories throughfight scenes, and World Trigger does this best. If you watched the show, then you already have a good guess of who’s here. If you’re thinking about watching the show, then stick around and see which characters you should look out for!
10Tatsuhito Ikoma
Captain of the Ikoma Squad and the no.6 attacker in all of Border, Ikoma was introduced to the audience in Season 2. What’s great about Ikoma? Well, his personality! Ikoma has a very eccentric personality, being a near-emotionless character who tends to focus on details that never really matter. His team could be preparing for the next battle, and Ikoma is discussing what he’s going to have for dinner that night. He’s a very simple man.
Yet even though he’s a little “out there,” he still leads his squad to victory every time. He’s ranked 6 for a reason, and it’s his quirky personality mixed with his cool guy persona when he gets serious that makes you want to see more of this weird character.

9Yoko Katori
Another Captain of her own squad, Katori is our first “All-Rounder” on this list, meaning she’s a jack of all trades when it comes to combat. A self-proclaimed genius, Katori proves her claim with every battle she’s in. She may come off as self-conceited and a little arrogant, but you’re able to’t denythe girl’s got style.
The love of her character comes from her personal story arc. She may have loads of talent, but the team she leads doesn’t, and it is indeed her overconfidence that slows the team down. If anything, she is the exact opposite of the series protagonist Mikumo, which is displayed beautifully in their inevitable clash.

8Masato Kageura
you may’t have a battle anime without ahot-blooded character, and the captain of the Kageura Squad is as fiery as they come. Being one of the few people to match the overpowered Kuga in strength alone, Kageura is one of those characters fans couldn’t wait to see in action. Lucky for us, he did not disappoint. Kageura stands out from the crowd with the unique way he uses the scorpion blade. Not as a sword like most, but as an extension of his body; like a beast with long claws.

It also helps that outside of battles, he’s not a bad guy. He may be a little violent, but it’s all coming from a good place. Don’t mess with him, and he won’t mess with you. Add that to his side effect that allows him to know others' emotions towards him, and you have one cool character on your hands.
7Ai Kitora
Another “All-Rounder” fighter and one of the strongest Border agents in the series, Kitora is the senpai you wish you had. She may come off as a little snobby, but that’s only because she’s a play-by-the-rules kind of character. Good thing the rules can be flexible, allowing her to aid our protagonist through several training sessions.
Kitora is a master at combat, yet she can be quite humble, at times comparing herself to other high-ranking agents. It’s nice to see a character who is already at the top of their world still learning and trying their best to grow.

Anenemy turned allyvia common a goal, Hyuse is the nonchalant and extremely talented character our main cast needed. Hyuse may come off cold, but in reality, he’s just saying the things that everyone else is scared to say. This forces our protagonists to face their shortcomings and grow from them, making Hyuse the “kick in the butt” this show needed.
A straightforward guy, and a talented fighter, Hyuse is an absolute delight to see on screen. Plus, his relationship with Yotaro is the most precious thing in this series.

5Chika Amatori
One of the main four protagonists in the show, Chika is an absolute sweetheart. She may be shy and timid, but out of everyone in the series, Chika processes the most “trion”, the energy source of this world, making her one amazing sniper.

The nuance of her character comes from the fact that she doesn’t actually want to shoot people. She wants to fight with her team to accomplish their goal of the “Away Squads,” but the view of seeing dismembered bodies (fake or real) terrifies her. Watching her work around this fear, and learning the true reason behind it in season 3, makes her so much more than just your typical shy anime girl.
4Yuichi Jin
Another protagonist of the series and one of the two characters to achieve S-Rank in Border, Jin is without a doubt a fan favorite. With his side effect allowing him to see the future, and the constant reminder of how strong he is, Jin stands as the pinnacle of strength and strategy in this world.
Combine that with his natural charisma and mentor role to the other protagonist, and you have one of the best characters in the show.

3Yuma Kuga
The 3rd protagonist on our list and the poster child of the entire series, Kuga isarguably the best fighteron this list, especially when he uses his “black trigger.” He also has a side effect that allows him to be a walking lie detector.
This young teen is actually a neighbor, one of the alien races that Border fight against. At a young age, he was mortally injured and was saved by his father. Unfortunately, in order to save his son, his father gave his own life, and Yuma was cursed never to age again. Yuma infiltrates Border with the hopes of helping Mikumo with his goal and reversing the curse put upon him. Yuma’s story speaks for itself; he is one of the most mysterious and interesting characters in the show.
2Kirie Konami
A fan favorite and Yuma’s mentor, Konami is an A-rank Attacker and one of the few people who can defeat Yuma at full power. Konami is a little bit childish and gullible, but her experience in combat speaks for itself. When it’s time to fight, you see all her childish nature fly out the window.
Although she is quite the tsundere at times, Konami is always willing to lend a helping hand, and if the World Trigger fan art community is any indicator, she has the best design in the series.
1Osamu Mikumo
The main character of the show and the best character at that. Most wouldn’t put Osamu so high on the list due to him being outshined by the several other Border agents around him. When it comes to combat, looks, and personality, Osamu can come off pretty bland. And while most action anime protagonists would become some fantasy dream boy, it is World Trigger’s dedication to keeping Osamu himself that puts him high on this list.
Osamu’s appeal is that he doesn’t get stronger but instead wins by working around his weakness. He may not be able to wield swords and guns as skillfully as his fellow agents, but it’s his strategy that allows him to grow as a character and accomplish his goals. Osamu’s story is the core message of World Trigger, that even the weakest of characters can have their time in the spotlight if they just take advantage of both their strengths and their weaknesses.
