The announcement ofWolfenstein: Youngblood’srelease datein March was also accompanied by the confirmation of a physical and digital release of the game for Nintendo Switch. BothDOOMandWolfenstein II: The New Colossusmade their way to the hybrid console, so it made sense for Bethesda’s latest title to follow suit. Unfortunately, it seems like the physical version ofWolfenstein: Youngbloodfor Nintendo Switch will not come on a cartridge.

Instead, those who pick upWolfenstein: Youngbloodfor Nintendo Switch at retail will be greeted with a download code once they open the box. This detail was first spotted byNintendo Everything, who were tipped off to the fact thatWolfenstein: Youngblood’sGameStoplisting states “No cartridge for this game. Code will be packed in box. Internet connection required.”

Following this, DualShockers proceeded to checkAmazonandWalmart, and both ended up stating the same thing in regards to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. DualShockers has reached out to Bethesda for confirmation, and will update this article when they respond.

While this news may be disappointing to those that like to collect physical versions of games, it isn’t a first for Nintendo Switch. Titles likeMega Man Legacy Collection 1+2and the upcomingResident Evil Origins Collectionfor Nintendo Switch require that players download one of two games included in those packages. Nintendo Switch cartridges are notorious for being expensive, especially when the games in question take up more space, so it makes sense as to why Bethesda would’ve made this decision.

For those that are still okay with picking up the Nintendo Switch version of the game following this development,it is currently available to pre-order on Amazon.Wolfenstein: Youngbloodwill release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on July 26.
