The second trailer forMatrix Resurrectionshas arrived and once again, fans were hoping to see Laurence Fishburne return as Morpheus inMatrix 4.However, that didn’t seem to be the case in the latest trailer as well.
But we did get to see Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss return as Neo and Trinity. Once again, the duo is trapped inside the simulated reality and we are excited to see how they manage to escape this time.
But most importantly, in this article, we shall discuss the reason behind Laurence Fishburne’s absence inMatrix 4. Do check out the trailer below.
Laurence Fishburne Is Not InMatrix 4Resurrections
As you can see in the first trailer released back in September, the first scene begins with Neo who cannot remember his past and discusses his strange dreams with a therapist played by Neil Patrick Harris.
Also, Neo and Trinity do not know each other yetMatrix Resurrectionsbut they could still sense familiarity. Then we get to see those “blue pills” which means living a life of ignorance within the simulated reality of theMatrix.
And finally, in the part where we all were waiting for Laurence Fishburne in his iconic role of Morpheus inMatrix Resurrections, we get to see a younger version of him which is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Now there were two possibilities here: either we get to see the older version of Morpheus in the movie (which should be played by Laurence Fishburne) or we just get to see his younger version played by Yahya.
Judging by the second trailer, it seems that the latter is true and we won’t get to see Fishburne at all.
In the latest trailer, we get to see Morpheus once again, but it is still the younger version played by Yahya. He reminds Neo of his past, asking him to remember what is real and motivating him to fight for Trinity who is back inMatrix Resurrectionsonce again!
The newMatrix 4trailer is longer than the previous one, and it gave us a glimpse of what we could expect in the movie when it hits theatre on December 22. However, it also killed any remaining hope that fans might have had for seeing Laurence Fishburne back in action as Morpheus.
Here’s Why Fishburne Is Not In The Movie
Sadly, Laurence Fishburne revealed in aninterviewback in 2020 that he was not even asked to be in the movie. This means that the creators probably didn’t have a role for him.
The second trailer suggests that Neo is going to be forced to be The One again, though under quite different circumstances inMatrix 4. If you remember inThe Matrix Reloaded, the Architect who helped create the Matrix explained to Neo that The One has existed many times before, and will always return as part of an ongoing cycle.
So it’s quite obvious that Morpheus is much younger in this timeline. But Laurence Fishburne cannot play a younger Morpheus in the movie, hence it makes sense that the creators didn’t approach him for the next movie.
Given that Fishburne played such a big role in the first three movies, and the fact that only Morpheus survived in theMatrixtrilogy, everyone was expecting to see him. So, we are definitely going to miss Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus inMatrix Resurrections.
Matrix 4 Resurrections Plot
As of now, the plot ofMatrix Resurrectionshas been kept well hidden under the wraps. But it seems likeMatrix 4is going to be created on a separate timeline because Keanu himself squashed any idea of a prequel or going into the past in theMatrixtimeline.
