While you are following Ranni’s questline, you will need to find and defeat a boss named Baleful Shadow in Elden Ring. Here, we have the location for you!
As an open-world game deeply tied to player exploration and curiosity, there is so much to discover in the Lands Between inElden Ringaside from the main questline.
Ranni is one of the NPCs with a pretty long questline in the game that requires you to beat a number of bosses to end her missions. Baleful Shadow is one of the bosses that you will need to slay in Ainsel River to progress through the Ranni’s questline, but it’s not easy to get there.
Where to Find Baleful Shadow in Elden Ring
In other to find Baleful Shadow, you need to get to a hidden part of Ainsel River that is only accessible through a portal at Ranni’s Rise tower. We have already covered the path to Ranni’s Rise in a separate guide that you canread here. Simply, you will need to defeat Royal Knight Loretta at Carian Manor in Liurnia of the Lakes to open the path to Ranni’s Rise. But before reaching the teleport, you will need to defeat Starscourge Radahn at Redmane Castle in Caelid as well.
After progressing enough through Ranni’s questline, you will eventually be able to visit the top of the Ranni’s Rise tower, where you will find a teleport that sends you to a hidden part of Ainsel River and Nokstella, Eternal City. Just where you spawn, there is an empty coffin a few steps ahead. Inside the coffin, you may find an item called Ranni Miniature.
Go to the Site of Grace ahead and rest. You will see an option allowing you to talk to Ranni Miniature. Talk to it a few times until you get an answer. Now continue your way inside the dungeon until you reach Nokstella. Continue the way straightforward in Nokstella until you see a Well at your left side with an elevator.
Go deep down with the elevator and continue the path forward until you reach a red invading boss fight, who is Baleful Shadow. You can check out thevideo belowfor the exact location of Baleful Shadow:
How to Get the Discarded Palace Key
After defeating Baleful Shadow, you will be rewarded with the Discarded Palace Key. This key opens the locked chest at the Academy of Raya Lucaria, exactly where you defeated Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon.
