However, givenGTA Online’ssuccess, the game is almost guaranteed to have a multiplayer mode. However, a former Rockstar employee has made some surprising revelations that might not appeal to fans.
Former Rockstar Employee Revealed That a Single-Player DLC for GTA 5 Was Cancelled Because of GTA Online

A former employee revealed the information above, but now another revelation might be woeful for fans. Former Rockstar employee Joe Robino revealed in aninterviewthat a single-player DLC that was in development was later cancelled because of the ‘cash cow’ that wasGTA Online.
Robino also stated the following:
It was really really good. But when GTA Online came out it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a standalone DLC would outcompete that.
If this were the case and the upcoming game’s online mode proves as successful as the last one, fans may get less single-player content.
GTA 5’s Multiplayer Mode Allowed Rockstar to Stretch the Title Across 3 Console Generations
It is now common knowledge that Rockstar Games was only successful in portingGTA 5across three different generations of consoles because of how invested players were in the multiplayer mode. The online mode also receives new content in microtransactions and expansion packs frequently, keeping things fresh.

One can also argue that the online game mode was so popular that fans never thought twice before purchasing the game again on their latest consoles. It was also reported recently that Rockstarhad hired developers who built FiveM, the custom roleplaying mode available for the game on PC.
That means the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary will also pull out all the stops for the multiplayer mode inGTA 6. That isn’t confirmation that the single-player mode’s potential expansions or extra content will get cancelled.
