A new limited-time mode is coming toBattlefield 2042next week thanks to an upcoming collaboration withDead Space, but fans are already expressing their disappointment following yesterday’s announcement.

The upcoming Dead Space collab will be live in Battlefield 2042 between July 9 and July 16, featuring a new limited-time mode known as Outbreak. In this squads-based mode, players will be “tested by their human resilience and resourcefulness against a new and relentless enemy all while trying to escape the Boreas laboratory,” according to EA.

There’s likely to be plenty of other content for players to check out too, such as what appears to be a special Isaac Clarke skin that appears in the trailer. Unfortunately, the collaboration hasn’t exactly gone down too well with fans, who are slating the limited-time event as a last-minute “skin bundle cash grab” before Battlefield 2042 ends support.

Earlier this year, EA confirmed that support for Battlefield 2042 would be coming to an end after Season 7: Turning Point. In ablog post, Battlefield’s general manager Byron Beede said, “While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future.”

“What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.”

Despite the fact that Battlefield 2042’s final season is now drawing to a close, EA has pulled out one last hurrah with its Dead Space collaboration, but fans aren’t happy.

Over on Reddit, fans are expressing their disappointment in droves: “So that’s why they extended the season, to do one last skin bundle cash grab before the support ends,” oneReddit usersaid.Anothersimply said, “What on earth happened to our beloved Battlefield franchise?”

“Most transparent cash grab ever. Support is ending, but now is the perfect time to do a crossover bundle? Gtfoh EA,” anotherdisgruntled fansaid. What do you think of the crossover? Make sure to let us know in the comments section below.
