Choosing to Imprison Gammel or letting him go free is one of the first major moral dilemmas players will face in the game and it can be hard to make a decision. Players faced with this choice will want to know the outcomes of each choice to decide whether or not it’s worth it.

Gammel will remain alive regardless of what you decide to do with him.Choosing the option to imprison him will give you an extra 10,000 Gold. If you decide to imprison him, being a thief, he will easily escape and vow revenge upon Alain whereas letting him go free will leave him with a better impression of Alain. If you let him go, he will immedaitely leave the area and make the promise to ‘never forget this’.You won’t get any gold with this route, however.
Imprisoning Gammle is a moral dilemma made all the more grey by his killing of the townsfolk before you arrive.His story about his sister is likely trueas it is backed up by other parties later on in the game.
If recruiting Gammel is something you’re interested in, sparing him is obviously the way to go. But if not, imprisoning him is the right call, from a strictly moral standpoint.
Rolf will offer to join the resistance regardless of what you decide to do with Gammel.
How To Recruit Gammel
It is highly probable thatGammel becomes a recruitable character in the later stages of the game, likely in Elheim. We haven’t progressed that far and cannot confirm this but all signs point to this being the case.
His quest is directly related toMandrin, an archer you’ll encounter in the mission immediately south of Gammel’s who is helping him gather the necessary gold for helping Gammel’s sister. If you want to recruit Gammel to your party, it is highly advisable tospare Mandrinas well.
