Last month, Nintendo announced thatTokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encoreis coming to the Switch. The updated version ofthe Wii U titlewill contain new content and party members. As a huge fan of this title, I have been waiting for what feels like forever for it to finally make its way to Nintendo’s newest system. In my opinion, it isone of the most underrated games of this generation as well as the JRPG genre.
Back on the Wii U, the title received controversy due to its censorship in the west compared to the Japanese version including increasing the age of characters and making more outfits more conservative. Based on photos onEncore’sofficial site, it is going to be the same version across all regions and these changes will be present. The information was realized after noticing one of the game’s characters Tsubasa wearing clothes that are a part of the censored version of the original game.

This may upset those who are against any type of censorship, but for those that already pre-ordered it, Nintendo is offering a refund aftermaking a statement on their Japanese site. It is currently unclear as to whether or not Nintendo is giving refunds to all adopters or only those who bought the game under a Japan account. As someone who has played the original, the censorship has a minuscule effect on the already great game, but it would have potentially been a better option if Nintendo had both versions available allowing players to choose which one they would like to play to appease both audiences.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encorereleases exclusively on Nintendo Switch July 04, 2025.
