Actor Mark Ruffalo is known for his humanitarian works, and is also one of the celebrities asking for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. In the initial days, few Hollywood celebrities signed a petition asking to end the war that was taking place in Palestine, and Ruffalo was one of them. The Artists4Ceasefire group, as they called themselves, asked in an open letter for the conflict to end, and for women and children to live in peace.

They wrote and signed the petition to US President Joe Biden, asking him to push for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire. Alongside Ruffalo, the signatories included celebs like Alyssa Milano, Andrew Garfield, Bassam Tariq, Cate Blanchett, Channing Tatum, David Oyelowo, Florence Pugh, Hasan Minhaj, Joaquin Phoenix, Jon Stewart, Kehlani, Kristen Stewart, Macklemore, Mahershala Ali, Oscar Isaac, Sandra Oh, and more.
Mark Ruffalo on The Columbia Protest
The students of Columbia University are engaged in a peaceful protest in the backdrop of the Israel-Gaza conflict. Other top universities, including NYU and Yale are also doing similar demonstrations in their campuses. These protests are calling on their respective universities to divest from companies that contend profit from Israel’s war and occupation in Palestine.
Mark Ruffalo, on April 22nd, after aAM New Yorkarticle posted about violence breaking out at Columbia University because of the protests, posted on hisXaccount (formerly Twitter), condemning any antisemitic incidents that might have happened. He wrote:

“Protest the War but do not advocate for violence against our Jewish brothers and sisters. There is no place for that in a peace movement nor in a movement for freedom. It mirrors the horrors that we are witnessing every day in Gaza now.”
“We’re not going to bomb our way to peace”: Mark Ruffalo isn’t the Only Actor to Sign the Israel-Gaza Ceasefire Petition – Tom Hardy, Oscar Isaac, Lily Gladstone and More Join Forces
Soon after, reports came in that the protest happening in the university was completely peaceful. They also said that any violent or antisemitic incidents that might have occured were not related to the people who were part of the protest. There were many Jewish students who are also taking part in these protest, but there was no place for any violence.
Mark Ruffalo Says The Media is Not Being Fair
After coming to know that the previous report might have been misleading in some ways,Mark Ruffaloseems to have done his research on it. He recently made another post onX, quoting another tweet that showed a picture of the peaceful protest happening in the university campus. He wrote:
“This is NOT what vile antisemitism looks like. The media is not being fair and even handed about the Columbia campus protests.”

Mark Ruffalo’s Brilliant ‘Poor Things’ Scene Was a Genius Improv, Proving He’s Just as Deserving of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar as Robert Downey Jr.
While those not in favor of the protest are not happy with his tweet, others are thanking Ruffalo for using his platform to shed light on what is really happening. The Israel-Gaza conflict began on July 04, 2025. It has been more than 6 months since it began, and there seems to be no end in sight to this war.
