Zack Snyder’sRebel MoonorRebel Moon– Part One: A Child of Fire, released on Netflix in 2023, generated polarizing reactions among critics and audiences. As its second installment is waiting for its release this month, Snyder has stated that the R-rated cuts of both films look like different films in themselves. However, the fans don’t look so happy about the idea of an intentional Director’s Cut.

In the past, Zack Snyder has released extended cuts for his DCEU projects-Batman v. SupermanandJustice League. The films turned out to be superior to their original versions. In an interview with theNew York Times, Snyder stated that almost all of his movies have a director’s cut.

In an interview withUNILAD, before the release of the second part titledThe Scargiver, Zack Snyder added that the upcoming R-rated cuts are more than just Director’s Cuts. To him, they are almost like different movies.
“The way I like to talk about it is that I think the two cuts that are coming are almost like alternative universe cuts more than an extended version. Like we call it the Director’s Cut. But they’re just like another movie.”

The filmmaker has revealed that the extended cuts are entirely different in their tonality and dialogues, and feature intense gore and nudity that is not usually seen in big-budget sci-fi ventures.
“We planned it while we were shooting, you know, we actually photographed the actors saying different dialogue… The tone of the film changes tremendously, because it’s more over the top in like, and purposely over the top [in terms of] the s*x and violence.”

While it was clear that Netflix and Zack Snyder took this approach of making the films in two different versions for the PG-13 audience and the adults to tap into a larger viewership, it raised a mixed response. Despite some fans being genuinely interested in the different cuts, numerous came forward tocriticizethis approach.

This seems like a really expensive and inefficient way to make movies

It just seems like a very odd use of resources to essentially make two of the same movie at the same time. Hes purposely going into it making one an inferior version? It doesn’t make sense.

such an odd decisions to make two cuts of the movie. The pg-13 version is beyond laughable. Hopefully the R rated can save it, if it ever releases.

Zack Snyder has stated that the second installment ofRebel Moonwill be heavier on action than Part One.It is hoped that the Sofia Boutella starrer will generate a better response from the sequel. On the other hand, like most other Snyder films, it is interesting to find out if the R-rated cuts provide a better version of the projects to the audience.
