Before there wereThe Witchergames and its Netflix adaption,Geralt of Rivialived within the pages of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s original collection of stories, first published in 1990. Now, returning to its fantasy roots to retell Geralt’s first adventures with Dandelion, Dark Horse Books is bringing the epic journey to a new graphic novel.
The Witcher: The Edge of the World is the sixth story in The Last Wish, which tells the story of Geralt and Dandelion’s first encounter before they travel through the Valley of Flowers to take on a job to drive out the “deovel”. The graphic novel’s writer, Magdalena Salik, talks about why this particular story is her favorite and also why she believes The Edge of the World is “one of the wisest short stories ever”.

Geralt’s Original Quest Brought To The Comic World
Along with writer Magdalena Salik, the comic book adaption will include artist Tommaso Bennato, colorist Chris O’Halloran, and letter Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou who teamed up to bring Geralt of Rivia’s earliest, and maybe most epic, quests to the graphic novel world. In The Edge of the World, be prepared for monsters, elves, superstitions, and how exactly Dandelion got that precious lute of his.
On theDark Horsewebpage, Salik discusses why The Edge of the World is one of her favorite Witcher stories and how, for those who haven’t yet read The Last Wish, the concept of how people may think about the usual stereotypical ‘heroes and villains’ gets turned on its head. “Because of its characters, who are diverse and counter-intuitive. Everyone has some ideas about devils or pixies - say farewell to them. In this story, Sapkowski plays with your established notions about heroes and villains, and plot twists as well.”

“For me, it’s one of the wisest short stories ever, going far beyond typical fantasy quest versions of this scenario,” Salik says as she further includes that The Edge of the World will have what fans expect from The Witcher lore like jokes, plentiful quests and, of course, lots of action. “But apart from that, there is also a strong message which leaves you both amused and pondering. In other words - enjoy and expect the unexpected.”
The Edge of the World’s artist Tommaso Bennato reveals that he is a big fan of the fantasy genre, so being able to work on The Witcher graphic novel “was a great pleasure” and hoped that this affection he has for its lore, really shines through and that fans enjoy it. " I hope that the fans appreciate the commitment and the passion that I put in trying to bring out the emotions of the characters and, in the case of the Sylvan, enrich his design with leaves, springs and mushrooms. Enjoy this incredible adaptation! I’ve done it, and I had fun drawing it!"

The Witcher: The Edge of the World will be released on June 29, 2025, in bookstores and a day later in comic stores. It will also be available onAmazonfor those who want to pre-order the hardcover version for $17.99.
