Beau DeMayo’s work withX-Men ’97earned the writer a lot of praise from fans, despite the fact that Marvel and Disney saw fit to part ways with the creator just days before the show was set to make its premiere. Despite the fears and anxieties that the firing generated for the show,X-Men ’97was largely well-received by fans and critics alike.

This, however, changed the way fans looked at the firing, wondering if the writing of the show was as solid as it was, why Disney felt the need to fire Beau DeMayo, who had finished working on Season 2 and was plotting out what would happen in Season 3 of the show.
Why the writer was shunned from the House of Mouse remained under wraps for the airing of the show and a few months following it, there have been some concerning updates about the nature of the firing, as brought forward by an investigation reported on by The Hollywood Reporter.

Beau DeMayo allegedly did not comment in time for the article to be published but took to his X account to address the article and its nature. Disney too, came forward with a statement of its own. Despite DeMayo’s work being well received on the show, and fans being keenly aware of the writer’s involvement in it, Disney has still decided to take the action that it had set out to as a consequence of DeMayo’s breach of contract.
Disney has decided to strip Beau DeMayo of his credit for Season 2 ofX-Men’97
On Thursday, Beau DeMayo revealed via his X account that he had been issued a letter from Disney, which states that due to a breach in a contract that was drafted in the wake of his firing, the writer will no longer receive credit for his work onX-Men ’97Season 2. According to DeMayo, the letter specifically pointed out one post that he made in celebration of Pride Month to his Instagram account.
Above is#XMenfan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June. On June 13,#Marvelsent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post. Sadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while on working on#XMen97and#Blade.

Following this, Beau DeMayo released a fleet of tweets, saying that he would be stepping back from social media and that the “truth will reveal itself.”
“The truth will be revealed. After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It’s tragic it’s come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned.”https://t.co/D4d5tXfPP0

In a statement toThe Hollywood Reporter, Marvel replied:
Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.
According to THR, sources close to the situation have said that there was an agreement between Marvel and DeMayo regarding tweeting about the show, which the latter continued to occasionally engage in.

Due to the breaches, Marvel saw fit to remove DeMayo’s credit from the second season ofX-Men ’97. Even though there has been no public statement about the reason the writer was removed, sources close to the situation have pointed towards some sort of sexual misconduct, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The internet is split on the matter of Beau DeMayo’s firing for various reasons
AsBeau DeMayotook to the internet to voice his concerns with regards to his firing, and with the recent flair up in the topic once again, a slew of fans have come out to support the writer of the show, while there are enough members of the audience that are skeptical about the whole matter being one-sided at all. There is a healthy amount of support for DeMayo.
Man you killed it on this series. Any company should be happy to have you
However, there seems to be a healthy amount of suspicion that is also being leveled at DeMayo. Given that the writer has posted similar content while under Disney, and that the House of Mouse has given credit to those that it has fired even after they have left the company, there is a healthy amount of suspicion about why DeMayo’s case is unique enough for Disney to take an action such as this.
Took you this long to finally say why you got fired? And that was it?And not a single coworker came to defend you as a person or how you were a great guy? Nah dude you got fired for being a shitty person to work with just like all the reports say
You were terminated, you didn’t “leave” the show. They fired you due to “egregious” misconduct. You’ve clearly violated the termination agreement, which is why they’ve stripped you of credits. It wasn’t due to what you posted, rather because you posted it.Let’s not start lying.
I’m not convinced, it’s something else.
While both Disney and DeMayo have not been forthcoming with any sort of concrete proof regarding their versions of the story, outlets and audiences can only help and speculate.
While it was confirmed in March that Beau DeMayo was evicted from the production, the writer would still receive credit for the work that he had done for Season 1 and Season 2 of the show, given that he was the head writer forX-Men ’97and had significantly invested his creativity in the revival.
It must also be noted that the writer took to his Twitter to inform fans about how he had not been invited to theEmmys by Marvel or DisneydespiteX-Men ’97receiving a nomination.
“Treat it like Kurosawa”: Beau DeMayo Won’t Return to X-Men ‘97, But His ‘Logan Styled’ Blade Pitch for Wesley Snipes is a Gold Mine That Kevin Feige Will be Foolish to Ignore
However, in June, Disney decided to not credit him for the work that he had done in Season 2, citing the post he made for Pride Month around the same time. It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds, as there is yet to be any sort of concrete proof from either party. While there have been a lot of allegations from both ends, audiences can only wait to see where the discourse and the case end up going in the coming days.
Season 1 ofX-Men ’97can currently be streamed on Disney+ as of August 24, 2025.
