Eiichiro Oda has been extremely secretive about the One Piece and its true nature. For a series that has been ongoing for over two decades both as a manga and as an anime, the ambiguous nature of its titular part seems almost like a mockery to fans who have been seeking the same answer Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have been.

What is it or who is it, that is a question asked multiple times. Whether it is a person, the last piece of a puzzle, or perhaps an entire phenomenon, anything even remotely close to its nature remains unknown. However, fans were extremely terrified of Oda bending to a common trope and thus ruining a series he worked so hard to work on. Much to their relief, the power of friendship isn’t the One Piece.
The Unity of Seas in Eiichiro Oda’s World
An old theory regardingOne Piecesuggested that the final piece of the puzzle would come into place once the Red Line sinks. Vegapunk had even talked about the sea level rising steadily. It had been theorized for a while about how One Piece would be naught an actual treasure or object but an act. WhileEiichiro Odahad spoken about it not being something silly, fans had speculated that it could be connected to the destruction of the Red Line.
While the Red Line sinks, everyone would be forced to join hands and put aside any issues they might have with each other. This would lead the people, all the pirates from all the crews and even others residing on the various islands, to unite (viaScreen Rant). The Red Line had played a significant role throughout the series and its sinking could potentially make the One Piece into two things.

The One Piece would be a plug that drains down the water level and brings the Red Line back, putting everything back to normal. It could also be the united people and their stance against the World Government.
Mayumi Tanaka Alluded to the One Piece
Mayumi Tanaka, the Japanese voice actor for Luffy admitted that she had some information about what the One Piece is. During an interview (viaX), the actress talked about how she had been asked multiple times about the nature of the mysterious treasure and if even it was a physical object. She herself was unaware of what it could truly be, seeing how she doesn’t even refer to the manga while working if at all.
The treasure of One Piece must be there as a ‘thing.’

Tanaka, much like every other fan, assumed it to be something that would relate to found family and the power of friends. However, Eiichiro Oda wasn’t one to pass around such misconceptions. He corrected the seiyuu, stating that while the One Piece was a mystery, it was still a satisfactory treasure.
Shonen Extremists Should Think Twice Before Accusing Eiichiro Oda for Ruining the Genre With One Piece That Gege Akatumi Did First in Jujutsu Kaisen
For fans who had been following the story for so many decades, something like that being the final treasure would seem futile. To ensure that does not happen, Oda ensured Tanaka that the One Piece was in fact a thing and not a who or what.
One Pieceis available to watch on Crunchyroll.
