Today, Sony showcased a handful of Playstation indie games through their Twitter account.Â
As a big fan of indie titles, it’s always exciting when the big console makers and developers showcase their favorites.
Sony showcased seven great Playstation indie games todayand they all look excellent. Here is our official ranking of the games shown off today based on their trailers.
7.Heavenly Bodies
Any time a developer uses a non-traditional control scheme in their game, they’re taking a risk.ÂHeavenly BodiesÂis doing just that by having the player take control of an astronaut and guide them through the many tense situations that space crews find themselves in. Navigating the void of space by piloting the astronauts' hands and controlling their grip seems to be the newest challenge for those who enjoyedQWOPÂandÂGetting Over It.ÂHeavenly BodiesÂis making its way to the PS4 and PS5 later this year.
6.Chicory: A Colorful Tale
Color, or the lack of, is something that developers don’t play with nearly enough. InÂChicory: A Colorful Tale, you take control of an adorable cartoon dog who’s looking for the titular Chicory. From the trailer, the gameplay seems to consist of coloring the grayscale world to reveal secrets as well as the path forward. It’s cute, but I’m curious how exactly the paintbrush will be controlledâin the trailer, it seems to be moving much faster and with more precision than a joystick could have. Maybe it’ll make use of the underutilized touchpad? Either way,ÂChicory: A Colorful TaleÂcomes to PS4 and PS5 this spring.
5.Puzzling Places
Over the years, puzzle games have been some of my favorites for the sole reason of how smart they make me feel (when I’m able to solve them that is.) It’s rare, however, for a puzzle game to be a literal jigsaw puzzle game.ÂPuzzling PlacesÂis a new PSVR game that creates 3D jigsaw puzzles out of real-world places. Using VR’s strength to be able to see the entire puzzle easily,ÂPuzzling PlacesÂseems like an unforgettable puzzle game experience headed to PSVR this winter.
4.Where the Heart Leads
The video game medium is the perfect place to tell surreal stories as perspective and the reliableness of a protagonist are always at the forefront of every experience.ÂWhere the Heart Leadsis a choice-based, narrative-driven, surreal experience that focuses on how different lives can be when someone makes different choices. Developed byindustry veterans at Armature Studio,the game will surely be something memorable.ÂWhere the Heart LeadsÂcomes to the PS4 and PS5 on July 13.
3.Nour: Play With Your Food
As a fan of rhythm games,ÂNour: Play With Your FoodÂhas me really excited. It’s a game that, based on its trailer, is a little hard to explain. It centers itself on food and music. When the player pushes buttons they change the beat of the song which then has the ability to push the food they’re looking at around. It seems in line with games likethe Tetris Effectand other games that are about mood, vibe, and the relaxation that music and focus can provide.Nour: Play With Your FoodÂcomes exclusively to the PS5 this summer.
2.Disco Elysium - The Final Cut
While it’s technically been playable for those with a beefy enough gaming PC,ÂDisco Elysium - The Final CutÂis the first time the game can be played on console. The tabletop-inspired RPG is one of mymost anticipated games of this year, and the more I see of it, the more excited I get. If you’re a fan of DND or any video games inspired by it, this will probably be the game for you. Revolving around an amnestic detective searching for answers,Disco Elysium - The Final CutÂcomes to PS4 and PS5 on March 30.
1.Operation: Tango
Everything aboutÂOperation: TangoÂhas me hooked. From the spy vs. spy setup to the asymmetrical multiplayer to the art style, the game is quickly rising to the top of my most anticipated games for this year.ÂOperation: TangoÂhas two players assume roles of either the Hacker or the Field Agent for “asymmetrical espionage action.” Games set around pulling off elaborate heists is a criminally underused market andÂOperation: TangoÂseems to have its sights on putting the thievery genre back on the map. It’s coming to PS4 and PS5 at an unspecified date.
