Creators and Cast ofThe Lordof the Rings: The Rings of Powertalk what’s ahead for Season 2
FandomWire: With the inability to use The Silmarillion, do you feel the creative freedom to bring some of these arcs to life?
Patrick McKay (Showrunner/Writer:Absolutely. We’ve been, you know, given an enormous amount of creative freedom byTolkien. His imagination is so vast, and if you read theLord of the Ringscover to cover, you know, you’d need a hundred shows to dramatize everything he’s got in there.

FW: When you have a show with this type of fandom, how much attention do you pay to what the fans say, and does that possibly alter things from season to season?
Lindsey Weber (Executive Producer): We’re fans, too, so we understand that it means a lot to people. It means a lot to us, too. For the last six years, we’ve devoted our lives to this and moved our families all around the planet. It’s great to have passionate fans, be talked about, have people debating things, and talk about what they might have done. That is all a thrill. We hope people will see whether they might have done it differently or might have done it exactly the same, that it is made with a lot of love and care. We’re trying to doMiddle Earthproud and represent it the way that, with the richness and craftsmanship, the books call for.

FW: As you shift into this second season as Nora, do you feel the preparation process was maybe a little bit easier because you’ve already established a relationship with the character?
Markella Kavenagh: That’s a really good question. I’d never done a second season of something before, so it was really exciting. You’re right in the sense of the backstory. I’d already worked with the showrunners and these actors, so I think that helped. And then also yet the gist foundation was set. It did help with that, but then you have the new challenge of a new story and a new character arc. But it helped to have that foundation. It complimented it well.

FW: Audiences think they’ve got your number. They believe they have your mystery identity all figured out. Without diving into spoilers, what surprises are in store within your character’s arc?
Daniel Weyman: The lovely thing about this season is that rather than in the first season, The Stranger created this energy expression, which the Harfoots had to respond to. This season, we’re going to see The Stranger have to respond to other beings creating these energy expressions, and he’s going to feel out of place and not going to know what the heck’s going on. And he’s going to have to cope with this very new thing. In fact, most of the season feels like new stuff for all of us, possibly. It’s going to be great to see them totally out of their comfort zones, having to respond to all these different obstacles and difficulties, and maybe finding some redemption along the way.

FW: What Can Audiences Expect from Season 2?
Weber: I think they’d expect to be shocked by some of theaction, some of the character stories, and maybe the scale of the battle in the end. We worked on it, planned it, prepped it, and shot it for over a year. We wanted to do a proper, epic battle, and I think it is one of the largest battles that will have been seen on television. And the performances of our cast. We’re particularly excited about the story of Sauron, which is really at the heart of this season.
McKay: Rob Aramayo’s journey is Elrond. He’s coming out of season one in some ways as a courtier, and in season two, he’s going to become a general and a warrior. The journey he takes is heartbreaking, and his performance blows us away.
Weber: People can expect to see a lot of creatures. One of the things we decided we wanted to do before season two was have more creatures and Middle Earth creatures, so this season, we went for it.
McKay: Ants, eagles, barrow-wight, trolls, worms and spiders, it’s never-ending.
FW: If you could give me one word, what audiences can expect from Season 2, what would it be?
Megan Richards:Hope
Weyman:Panic
Kavenagh: Maniac
