The most infamous piece of DLC in the history of gaming has returned, asThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remasteredhas brought back theHorse Armor DLC, but true to its nature, it’s only available to people who pay more for the game.
So, why is DLC for horse armor so infamous? For many people, it’s considered the point at which modernbad monetization practices for DLCstarted, as Bethesda were charging money for a purely cosmetic item that had no effect on the game. As time went on, the term “Horse Armor” became a shorthand for wasteful or irrelevant DLC.

Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered isreal and out today. It also revealed that there are two editions of the game, one of which puts a fresh price tag on its predecessor’s equine DLC.

Horse Armor Is In The Oblivion Remaster’s Deluxe Edition
While thebase version of Oblivion Remasteredcomes with all of the DLC from the base game (Shivering Isles and the Knights of the Nine), the Deluxe Edition adds additional content and gear, including Horse Armor Sets.
The two Horse Armor DLC pieces are based on Order and Cataclysm. The Deluxe Edition costs $10/£10 more than the base version, so Bethesda are once again squeezing the marks who are desperate for a bit more clothing for their horse. After all,FromSoftware is doing itwith the new version ofElden Ring, so why shouldn’t Bethesda?

In all fairness, Oblivion Remastered is a day one launch on Game Pass, so it’s pretty cheap for anyone who wants to play it now. It just depends on whether the fanbase at large is willing to pay more for the horse armor after all this time, especially since the initial revulsion has long since passed and it has become a meme.
