The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomproducer Eiji Aonuma has teased during the Famitsu Game Awards that Nintendo’s new flagship title will seemingly feature gameplay features that will change Hyrule in some way. He did not go into much detail about the innovation, but a small tease has fans excited about the game’s open world.

Legendary producer Eiji Aonuma attended the Famitsu Game Awards showcase in celebration of his birthday, where he accepted the award of Most Anticipated Game for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Prior to the game’s release, rumors regarding the new features and mechanics shown off in the debut trailer surfaced online.

Nintendo, on the other hand, still has not given many details about the gameplay except for a short trailer dedicated to some sort of vehicles Link can use to travel through Hyrule. This time, however, one of the producers broke the silence with an exciting tease, saying that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will have gameplay that will alter the game’s world.

“In the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, furthermore, the player’s free imagination will be filled with a new gameplay that will bring about changes to the game world.” Producer Eiji Aonuma said on the stage. Translated in a series of tweets byGenki_JPN, which have now been deleted, Aonuma also said he hoped everyone would be ‘pleasantly surprised’ by this and would enjoy exploring Hyrule in an “unknown” state. Apart from being an indication of its massive scale, it could be related to building and crafting abilities at Link’s disposal.

With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just a few months away, Nintendo is expected to release new information about the gameplay in the coming months. The company has revealed nothing more than pre-order details and a few gameplay basics via a short gameplay trailer. Though this is one game Nintendo wants to keep players curious about, the secrecy surrounding Tears of the Kingdom has been a subject of debate over the past months.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the first Nintendo game with a $70 price tag. It will release exclusively for Switch on May 12th.
