There aren’t many gaming communities I spend a lot of time in nowadays, but over the past few years, I have found myself lurking more and more in Reddit groups for theSoulsgames. Whether it beDark Souls,Bloodborne, or the newly releasedSekiro: Shadows Die Twice, I’ve found each individual community to be some of the most welcoming and positive on the Internet and, for the most part, are a far cry from the “git gud” mentality that many associate fans of theSoulsgames with.
With FromSoftware announcing its newest project,Elden Ring, earlier this year at E3 2019, it didn’t take long for aReddit communityon the game to form and discussions to begin taking place. As the months have dragged on though, news onElden Ringhas largely been totally absent. We still haven’t seen gameplay, we don’t know when it’ll be releasing, and FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have largely remained quiet. So with so little information to go off of, the community has slowly just become a place to create stupid memes centered around the game in the meantime.
Yes, theElden Ringsubreddit has largely just become a sh**posting community at this point. The top posts in the group almost constantly are memes begging creator Hidetaka Miyazaki for more information onElden Ring, memes referencing a nonexistent boss calledGlaive Master Hodir, or some other dumb jokes about how everyone in the group is going to die before we ever learn anything more about this game.
There’s also a running theory that Miyazaki is just stalling out on sharing information so that the community will begin to write the lore ofElden Ringfor him. That’s how the aforementioned fake boss Glaive Master Hodir came about, after all.

One of my other personal favorite trends though has been everyone creating stupid memes referencing the “someone” or “something” that destroyed the Elden Ring, according to the game’s trailer. In all honesty, it’s a pretty dumb and poorly written line that is made all the funnier since the community has latched onto the quote in this manner.

OhHH, Elden Ring!fromr/Eldenring
Others in the community also started taking other lines said inElden Ringtrailer and have turned those into stupid jokes as well.

And more recently, I loved this stupidSpider-Man 2callback realizing what the community has essentially turned into.

I guess the bottom line of this whole article is that theElden Ringsubreddit has been a fun one to lurk in for a few months now. Even without anything to go off of regarding the game, the community has found a way to make it a place I check in on almost daily just to get a good chuckle. If you’re aSoulsfan, I encourage you to go spend some time in there as well if you get bored.
If we’re lucky, hopefully, we’ll get some more information before the end of the year onElden Ring. And if we don’t, well, at least we know that Glaive Master Hodir is bound to show up.
