At the beginning of Masashi Kishimoto’sNaruto, the main characters were young shinobi aspiring to become stronger to achieve their goals in life. While the early chapters of the series explored their journey, we were soon introduced to some characters who were gifted in many ways. Almost every generation had young prodigies who stood out with their exceptional talent.

While some of them came from strong clans like Itachi Uchiha, and made the best out of their abilities, others, like Minato Namikaze were highly regarded for their genius and adaptability. A discussion broke out on Reddit to confer who was the better prodigy between Minato and Itachi. In order to come to a definite conclusion, we need to delve into their respective character arcs in the series.

Itachi Uchiha was exceptional, but his strongest ability was the crux of his strength

Itachi Uchiha was initially introduced as a villain who killed his entire clan. As the story progressed, his childhood andthe true motivation behind his actions were explored. From a young age, Itachi was leagues ahead of his peers. He was one of the youngest shinobi to graduate from the Academy with perfect grades.

From becoming a chunin at the age of 10 to being promoted to the rank of an Anbu captain, Itachi was an overachiever in every way possible. He activated his Sharingan and Mangekyo Sharingan at a young age which granted him with even stronger techniques. Later on in the series, we see Itachi overpowering Kakashi, Kurenai, and Asuma showing how he could take on three Jonin at the same time.

Even during the war, he broke free from the reincarnation jutsu, gained consciousness, and defeated Kabuto. Every major event in his life was a testament to his strength and willpower. Even under immense pressure, Itachi tried his best to establish peace in his homeland. Even though Itachi proved his caliber on multiple occasions, in a discussion on Reddit, fans believed that Minato was superior to him in many ways.

This discussion highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of both characters. Itachi was undoubtedly a genius, but the majority of his strength was a result of his Sharingan. Without the Sharingan, Itachi would not be nearly as powerful as we know him to be. Even though we recently got theMinato one-shot, his childhood can be further explored in great detail byMasashi Kishimotoin a prequel, and fans would still appreciate it.

Here’s what makes Minato better than Itachi

Unlike Itachi, Minato wasn’t from a renowned clan. He worked extremely hard and built an arsenal of legendary techniques that were only known by a few. He mastered the techniques created by Tobirama, who was awestruck by Minato’s genius during the war.

No matter how dire a situation seemed, Minato always had a wide range of techniques to leave his opponents powerless. From his sealing techniques to the Flying Raijin, he was capable of defeating his opponents and leaving them powerless. His powers weren’t concentrated into one single thing like Itachi.

Admittedly, Itachi was extremely skilled with his Sharingan and it was difficult to counter his attacks, but if someone found a way around the attacks of Sharingan, they could easily tackle Itachi. Minato didn’t have any such direct weaknesses. And that’s exactly what makes him superior to Itachi in many ways.
