In a recent interview, the actor opened up abouthow he consistently tried to avoid similar rolesas Ted Mosby.“I was really looking for roles that just felt really different,”he toldPeople.

My first job, my first gig outside of How I Met Your Mother was this Broadway play called Disgraced, and it was about Islamophobia. And I played this pretty ethically shady character — And then, I was on this PBS Civil War show called Mercy Street, where I was a morphine-addicted Civil War surgeon.

He continued,“So I was really looking for roles that were not lovesick guys in New York City looking for wives,”before further emphasizing,“That was something I didn’t want to do.”

Radnor also admitted that he still receives offers for roles that resemble Ted Mosby but he“almost always says no to those roles.”However, while the actor has been reluctant to play a similar character, he is now planning to re-enter the universe—this time with a new podcast based on the show.

While the actor-musician has been reluctant to take on roles similar to Ted Mosby, he isnow embracing his connection toHow I Met Your Motherthrough a new podcast titledHow We Made Your Mother.

Taking a more positive approach to his long-standing association with the sitcom, Radnor told People,“It’s tiring to run from such a big part of yourself and your career.”

He further explained,

I think that part of me doing this [rewatch podcast] is just to almost call a truce with it and say like, ‘All right, you’ve given me a lot. You’ve taken a lot from me. I don’t want to be at odds with you, so let’s just turn around and see.’

While acknowledging that he has had to navigate many challenges, including some difficult moments, Radnor expressed excitement about revisiting the series.

The new podcastHow We Made Your Motherwill debut on March 10.
