It would come as a surprise for fans that Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thanos actor Josh Brolin was a top Batman candidate for Zack Snyder’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Obviously, he failed to land the part, even though he was very keen on portraying the Caped Crusader.

The actor was okay with Snyder choosing Ben Affleck for the role, though he shared his sympathy for theGone Girlstar after he became the recipient of fans’ backlash towards his casting. Still, Brolin shared what would have been his take on the Batman role.

Josh Brolin Was So Close To Playing Batman Until Zack Snyder Changed His Mind
During his interview with Josh Horowitz via theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, MCU starJosh Brolinconfirmed that he was in the running for the role of Batman inZack Snyder’s movie. He revealed they had conversations about it, but it did not turn out the way he hoped for.
“That was interesting to me. That was his decision; that wasn’t my decision.”

Brolin revealed what his version of Batman would look and sound like, and it was clear that Zack Snyder wanted to go for a different creative direction. An older Batman would have changed the entire story of the movie along with 2017’sJustice League.
“It would have been the older, the more raspy, for lack of a better word. Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”

When asked byThe Huffington Postabout his reaction towardsBen Affleckbagging the coveted role, Brolin held no ill feelings. Instead, he felt sorry for theArgoactor after he was heavily criticized by the public for his casting in Snyder’s film.
“I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life. I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘F—k this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.’ I want him to kick a—s, and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.”

Affleck’s performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman yielded mixed reactions from fans, though he gave a much darker and more aggressive version of the character that suited the story.

Josh Brolin Still Wants To Become Batman
Before he starred asDeadpool’s Cable and MCU’s Thanos, Josh Brolin was not a stranger to comic book heroes. He notably appeared as DC’s disfigured gunslinger in the critically panned Warner Bros filmJonah HexwithMegan Fox.
As he mentioned in the same interview with Josh Horowitz, he likes those odds between roles that might work unexpectedly or not at all, hence his taste for taking on risky projects. He would also contemplate if he would be the guy that would make a movie head for its own doom.
Despite the uncertainty, Brolin declared he is still open to playing an older version of Batman when he turns 80. Who knows? He might be able to deliver what he originally planned to do for the character in a futureBatmanfilm.
