For many fans, the charm of Marineford War is unparalleled inOne Piece. From a strong and compelling set-up to an unnerving conclusion, the war arc was full of surprising twists. Some of the biggest names of theOne Pieceworld assembled on the same battlefield only for things to spiral out of control. While most fans remember Marineford for what happened with Ace and those who fought to protect him, there was a darker side of war that remained unexplored up until now.

A special episode titled ‘One Piece Fan Letter’ recently aired, and it brought that dark side to the forefront. Beyond exploring the war through a new perspective, the episode reminds us how Koby is one of the kindest and bravest characters in the series. He stood against Akainu for what he believed to be right, regardless of the intense fear he was experiencing.
This Scene inOne Piece Fan LetterHighlights the True Magnitude of Marineford War
War is unforgiving and ropes in many innocent people who have no say in it. The Marineford War was no different. Many Marine Soldiers were stationed at Marineford, but they didn’t have the strength to withstand a battle that involved the likes of Whitebeard or the Admirals. Yet, they had to be there as a part of their duty and there’s no doubt that many of them lost their lives as well.
One Piece Fan Letter, a celebratory episode for the 25th anniversary ofOne Piece, showed the war from the perspectives of two brothers who worked in the Marine Corps. Just like Luffy and Ace, those two were not related by blood. When the fight ensued between the Admirals, the strong attacks threatened their lives.

While the younger brother was calling out for his older brother to save him, the older brother was ready to leave him. When he heard Luffy screaming Ace’s name and rushing to save him, he realized that he didn’t need to be related to his brother to save him.
Eiichiro Oda Hinted Akainu-Monkey D. Dragon’s Relationship Back in Marineford During His Fight With Luffy But Many of us Missed It
Beyond the heartwarming realization of the Marine Soldier, this episode emphasizes how everyone was involved in the war as per the orders. Yet there was no one to take accountability for their well-being. Had the brothers not been there for each other, they might have lost their lives. There were many characters who must have died fending for themselves.
Fan Reactions to the Episode and Oda’s Brilliant World Building
Fans loved the episode, and this scene reminded some of them why Koby jumped in front of Akainu. He didn’t like the idea of multiplying deaths even after their objective was achieved. He bravely put his belief in front of Akainu.
Thats why coby try to stop akainu

the animation, the perspective. if they made a series of just civilian perspective on the events of the one piece world exactly like this episode. dude… literally would be peak
The random marine’s perspective powerfully underscores the dark brutality of the Marineford War, making this episode a true masterpiece.

“Just watched the Marineford War from a random marine’s POV in a One Piece special, and it really puts into perspective how brutal and dark that conflict was
This episode was the perfect way to show us how the Straw Hats effect others. This guy running to save his brother because despite all odds Luffy did the same was just amazing

Even though he was shaking with fear, Koby attempted to stop Akainu. He could’ve been killed but he chose to do what he believed in. He didn’t have the strength to oppose Akainu but that didn’t deter his will or his belief. It was admirable of Koby to do that. While the episode isn’t written byEiichiro Oda, his world-building shines through it.
Not Even Whitebeard Did It at Marineford- Only This One Piece Character Has Dared to Fight 3 Marine Admirals at the Same Time
The navy soldier speaks about the correlation between him and everything that happened since the Pirate Era started. Gol D. Roger changed his world forever without being aware of his existence. Luffy ended up doing the same thing. The way Oda has weaved his world, the grand picture becomes extremely clear if one tries to think about it.One Piece Fan Letterperfectly captured and fleshed out the nuances to the world weaved by Eiichiro Oda over the years.
