“This man, who had had a very difficult start to life saw extremely important people mobilize to fulfill his final will.”

For Villeneuve and his wife, Tanya Lapointe, the man’s story deeply touched them. Gagnon mentioned that they saw it as a reminder of why movies matter. She said,

In the latest box office reports, Villeneuve’s creation surpassed the record set by last summer’s historical epic,Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, which brought in$82.4 millionon its opening weekend. This sequel, highly anticipated after the success of its predecessor, played a significant role in revitalizing a somewhat sluggish box office.

Jeff Goldstein, the president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures expressed his surprise, saying (viaCNN),

“This is just what the box office needed and much higher than any of us could predict. That’s especially true given that it’s a sci-fi movie, which is a genre that is a hard nut to crack. And we grossed $178.5 million worldwide, which is quite a standup.”
