After months of silence,Nintendo broke the news yesterdaythat we’d finally be getting information on the second character from theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass 2.In a shortannouncement trailer, that character was revealed to be none other than Steve fromMinecraft.
Steve comes from the world’s best selling game,Minecraftand will also be accompanied by a trio of alternative skins in the form of Alex, Zombie or Enderman. The aesthetic of Steve and company very much maintains that ofMinecraft, rather than adapting to the look ofSuper Smash Bros. The characters appear to use a range of weapons and items familiar to theMinecraftseries as well as being able to construct buildings to their advantage.
After the presentation,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatedirector Masahiro Sakurai had an update for fans. He said that while graphically adding theMinecraftcharacters was easy, balancing the characters would be far more difficult. Alongside that, all stages would have to be reworked in order for the characters to be able to build on them.
Sakurai also shared that more information will be coming in a special live stream on October 3. He added that as Steve has a lot of elements that “are completely different from our previous fighters” he would like to give a deeper dive into the character during this stream. The stream will be live at 7:30am PT/ 10:30am ET / 3:30pm UK.
Steve becomes the second character from the secondSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass, followingARMS’Min Min,who was announced and released this past June. The original Fighter Pass consisted of five DLC characters who are now fully integrated into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The first pass contained a mixture of first and third-party characters, with a couple of surprises to boot. They were Joker fromPersona 5, Hero fromDragon Quest, Banjo fromBanjo Kazooie, Terry fromFatal Furyand Byleth fromFire Emblem: Three Houses.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis out now forNintendo Switch, along with both Fighter Passes.
