WARNING: This article contains minor Starfield spoilers. Specifically in relation to the Ebbside Strikers questline.
TheStarfieldcommunity wants there to be more of an impact on the in-game world when completing quests, calling the current system “frustrating” and “generic.”

Over on the Starfield subreddit,a postwith over 1,500 upvotes has sparked quite the conversation surrounding the game’s lackluster evolution as time passes and quests are completed. The post in question, which is titled, “So frustrating that nothing you do impacts the game,” discusses how there are no changes to locations after completing quests, even though certain quests lead you to believe that there will be changes to certain areas of the universe thanks to your actions.
An Old Starfield Concept Art Piece Has Players Longing For What Could Have Been
We got a very different Starfield than this image shows.
To be more specific, the user states that they had just completed theEbbside Strikers questline, which takes place in Neon. The questline revolves around assisting the Ebbside Strikers against a rival gang, The Disciples. There are only three missions for players to complete and ends with the player taking out the opposing faction, while the Ebbside Strikers join Neon Security and ensure that no gangs are created in the future.
However, after completing the questline, the user noted that “absolutely nothing” had changed. This would have been a prime opportunity for Bethesda to change the dynamic of Neon after completing the specific questline. But gangs are still present and the residents still live in fear, ruining the immersion and making players question why they even bother to complete certain quests.

Fellow Starfield Players Share Their Frustrations
Clearly, these frustrations aren’t just shared by one single player. Over 500 comments on the post have expressed their opinions on the matter, with many agreeing that Starfield doesn’t do enough to add to the overall immersion.
One of the best examples given by a fellow player comes from Reddit userAvenger1324, who said, “On Neon the gun store with the robot had been vandalised. I did that quest and the dialogue said how he’d cleaned him and looked good as new. Only the robot looked exactly the same as before, still covered in graffiti.”

Another user said that this was their “biggest issue with the game” and that it felt too generic as nothing they did mattered and they felt like their actions made no impact in the greater universe. Reddit userMorebeavereven went as for to say that Starfield is “not an RPG” as “there are no consequences to your actions.”
Although this is a critique unlikely to be rectified by Bethesda, the studio does have big plans for the future of its latest RPG. Players can expect a new update to be deployed on January 17, exclusively for Steam Beta. The patch will feature over 100 fixes and improvements, graphical improvements, widescreen support, improved textures, and more. The full update will be released approximately two weeks later for all players.

More details on the future of Starfield can be found in thegame’s end-of-year update.
