For the past several years, EA has had control of creating official games set in theStar Warsuniverse, to mixed results. The publisher experienced some severe backlash with its multiplayer-focusedBattlefronttitles, while rebounding with a single-player, story-focused campaign in the form of Respawn’sJedi: Fallen Order. Now, for the publisher’s nextStar Warsexperience, developer EA Motive is bringing the exciting space combat of the series to a single and multiplayer title later this year, calledStar Wars: Squadrons.

Ahead of its upcoming EA Play presentation later this week, EA has officially pulled back the curtain on one of its new titles, which is calledStar Wars: Squadrons. Compared to recentStar Warstitles that have been released by EA such as theBattlefrontseries andJedi: Fallen Order,Squadronsis primarily focused around space combat featuring the numerous iconic ships of theStar Warsuniverse.

The official reveal trailerthat debuted today gave us a closer look at the upcoming title, while also confirming that the game will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 15, 2025. According to the trailer,Squadronswill feature both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes, with the story set after the events ofReturn of the Jedi. The game will also feature support on PS4 and PC to play through the entire campaign in VR, and cross-play support will also be enabled for multiplayer between the console and PC versions of the game. Pre-order pages for the game on Steam and other retailers have also revealed that the game will cost $39.99.

Squadronshas been rumored or known about for some time now, as the title wasoriginally leaked on the PlayStation Store under the codename “Project Maverick.“Then, last week on the Microsoft Storethe official name of the project and its key art were leaked, giving us a clearer picture of what the new title will entail.

As someone that loved theRogue Squadrongames back in the day, personally I’m stoked to see a modern-day take on what ship-basedStar Warscombat will look like. From what we’ve seen so far,Squadronsseems like what we’ve been waiting for, and I can’t wait to hop into an X-Wing (or my personal favorite, the Y-Wing) to recreate the epic space battles that I’ve loved from the series. While we didn’t end up seeing any gameplay from the reveal trailer, presumably we’ll get to learn more about the game later this week when EA Play 2020 airs.

Star Wars: Squadronswill release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 09, 2025.
