Netflixhasannouncedthe date for the third and final season of its hit series,Squid Game.
The day in question?July 11, 2025. It’s a tremendously quick turnaround, as over three years passed between seasons 1 (September 2021) and 2 (December 2024).
Netflix also released five new images, teasing what’s to come.

BeforeSeason 2premiered, the creator ofSquid Game(also director, writer, and executive producer), Hwang Dong-hyuk, released a letter to fans.
I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season. On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, “Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.” Italmost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well.
Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.
I am thrilled to see that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.

Should You WatchSquid Game?
It’s one of the most popular Netflix shows ever. So if you loveTVand being part of pop culture conversations, then, yeah,Squid Gameis worth watching, just to have an opinion on it.
And Season 1 is universally acclaimed, for good reason. It was fresh, daring, and shocking. The critic score on Rotten Tomatoes is 95%, with the audience score at 83%.
Season 2 didn’t quite reach the same highs, unfortunately. The scores are still high, just not quiteas high. 88% from critics, 73% from fans.
That’s reflected in the IMDB scores, too. The first season had an average episode rating of 8, based on 16,000 to 28,000 votes per episode. The overall rating dropped to 7.5, and vote totals were between 11,000 and 16,000.
Seasons 2 had two major things working against it. First, it’s well-established at this point that middle entries in trilogies often frustrate fans because so much is left hanging. Though, audiences tend to re-evaluate once the story is complete.
Second, Dong-hyuk had only intended the show to be one season. So everything he needed and wanted to say went into that first season. Revisiting the story and finding more to do with the concept and characters can be daunting and not something that’s easy to pull off. Which is why sequels forced by success often never recapture the same magic.
