Spy x Family is a surprising blend of a massive amount of genres and fantastical tropes, of these, one of the main cast members, the Forger family, contains an assassin. Yor Forger is an assassin for a secret organization called ‘Garden’, and she is a complete enigma.
Yor Forger is undoubtedly one of the most beloved characters in Spy x Family, but her design and introduction led the fans to believe that she was cut out from the same mold of female assassins and it would have reduced her appeal.
Yor’s design and the femme fatale expectation
With her revealing dress, it was initially hinted at an overused assassin trope (the honey trap assassin), if Tatsuya Endo had kept going with it, it would have made her lack her signature warmth and genuine personality.
However, the femme fatale stereotype was cleverly dodged, thereby allowing the character of Yor Forger to shine beyond all expectations. When Yor was first introduced, there seemed to be a very high (and somewhat obvious) possibility that it was a second coming of the “seductress assassin” archetype.
Her elegant yet revealing outfit, with her poised and confident demeanor when she walked into the hotel, hinted at her being an experienced honey trap assassin. Her deadly skills that seemed to obliterate entire groups of enemies seemed to fit as well.

But this narrative is nothing new and hasbeen used in countless espionage and action stories, movies, and even anime. The character of the female assassin often ends up being reduced to little more than being manipulative, honey-trapping figures who always look out for their own benefit.
How Spy x Family changed the trope
Luckily for the fans,Spy x Familytook a different approach from this overused trope, making Yor a refreshing new assassin. Even Yor’s assassin persona, the “Thorn Princess,” appears to be designed for the seductress style usage.
But charm and beauty aren’t Yor’s greatest assets; it’s really her two golden stiletto-type weapons that she uses to wipe out her enemies at lightning speed.
Despite her exceptional appearance, Yor remains pure-hearted (even while killing),she never engages in manipulation or seductionto get to her targets. Instead, she relies purely on her strength, agility, and trained combat skills to eliminate them.

Her role as a wife and mother within the Forger family gives her a special position, especially as she does her best to take care of both of them despite her relative inexperience. This also contrasts with the traditional portrayal of female assassins,making her a genuinely deep character.
