AfterSplit Fictionbroke the 1 million sales milestonewithin just 48 hours of release, Hazelight announced that the game has now doubled that number with over 2 million sales in just its first week.
The game has been a critical darling ever since release, maintaining Hazelight’s incredible standard of quality established with A Way Out and fully recognized with It Takes Two.We loved it in our review, and it sits at an incredible 98% critic recommendations onOpenCritic.
Split Fiction Is Topping Steam Charts
Split Fiction broke records for EA as well, withthe most concurrent players on Steamof any paid game in EA’s history.
OnSteamDB, Split Fiction continues to top theirtrending chartby followers, not to mention popular and hot releases. It’s also rated as #2 in top sellers, just below the ever-dominant (and free) Counter-Strike 2.
It also sits near the top of themost playedchart, easily in top 10 24-hour peak players, althoughMonster Hunter Wilds is still above it there.
Unsurprisingly, the response on Steam from fans has also been incredible, with 98% of the almost 20,000 reviews recommending it, putting it in the prestigious “Overwhelmingly Positive” camp.

It’s safe to say that Hazelight Studios has revitalized couch co-op games.It Takes Twowas obviously critically acclaimed as well, winning game of the year at The Game Awards in 2021, not to mention a runaway sales success, and Split Fiction shows that they don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
One particularly ingenious aspect of Split Fictionis their Friend’s Pass system, which allows owners to play the game’s mandatory co-op with a friend who doesn’t own the game; only one of the players does.
The player who doesn’t own the full version can download the Friend’s Pass version, which allows them to be invited into the other player’s game.
Fortunately for Hazelight, it doesn’t seem like this system has impacted sales too much, and we can only wait to see what heights Split Fiction ends up reaching.
