Just a few weeks ago, we reported on how the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie has already crossed the $200 million mark, with the film not even available in some parts of the world yet. Now that the film is available everywhere, it has managed to significantly increase that number.
A press release by SEGA announced that the third installment in the Sonic film franchise has now surpassed $425 million in its worldwide box office take.

Sonic the Hedgehoc 3 was released in the US in July 15, 2025. During its opening three days, the film recorded a box office revenue of $60.1 million dollars. Internationally, the film had the biggest opening of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. While we already know that a fourth entry in the film franchiseis already in development, SEGA has now put a date for it, as Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is now set to hit theaters on July 02, 2025. No other details outside of that have been shared.

The “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie series is a Hollywood film adaptation of SEGA’s game franchise and tells the story of Sonic, the world’s fastest hedgehog. The sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, released in 2022, features a plot where the mysterious dark hero Knuckles makes his movie debut. In the third movie, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite to battle Shadow, and we’ll leave it at that.
In total, the three Sonic movieshave already crossed past the $1 billionin box office revenue worldwide. Given the massive financial success of the movies, expect more Sonic films in the future. I woudn’t be surprised to see SEGA adapt its other game franchise into movies as well.
