The game contains a considerable number of locks, some of which require significant effort to open and reveal the unlocked content. Generally, these locks hold more significance than any other puzzles, as they unlock various key items. This is a guide to unlocking the locks inSilent Hill 2.
Room 202 Moth Combination Lock
In the Bluecreek Apartments complex ofSilent Hill 2, there will be numerous puzzles and other things to discover. Specifically, in Room 202, there is a lock that requires a precise combination to unlock.

The goal is to determine how many moths of each type are present. These moths have symbols representing a skull, the moon, and an eclipse. Once you’ve explored the entire area, you’ll come up with two possible outcomes depending on the difficulty level.
On the standard difficulty level, there will be 2 skull moths, 8 moon moths, and 3 eclipse moths. On the hardest difficulty level, there will be a total of 16 moths to find, distributed as follows: 2 skull moths, 8 moon moths, and 5 eclipse moths.
Once you have collected all the moths of each type, you will need to follow the lock’s instructions, which may involve some math, to unlock this location.
Brookhaven Hospital Reception Lock
When you arrive at Brookhaven Hospital inSilent Hill 2, you’ll discover a locked box in the reception area that contains an essential keys for the story.
The peculiarity lies in the fact that to unlock the password, you must explore a significant portion of the hospital and memorize specific items, depending on their level of difficulty. First, you’ll need to go to Classroom 3 at the hospital to find the paper that tells you what you need to memorize to unlock these locks.
In the easiest setting, simply counting the photos requested in the hospital hallways will provide you with the specific lock combination. Once you’re in standard or severe difficulty, you’ll need to memorize the things in the photos, including nurses, doctors, and trees.

In hard mode, the game also requires you to add and subtract things to get a combination. The lobby and hospital hallways, always on the same floor as the box, will have hospital staff photos to view.
Once again, you must count them all. Depending on the level of difficulty, the combination that unlocks the box will vary. For the hardest difficulty, you’ll also need to perform some additions and subtractions to find the specific number. The combinations to unlock the basement key inside the box are light (2-8-7), standard (7-2-4), and hard (1-5-2).
X-Ray Puzzle Lock Combination
To solve the third lock in thisSilent Hill 2guide, you must explore three different floors of the hospital to find the necessary items. Once you solve this puzzle, you will receive the combination for the lock.
First, go to the X-ray room on the third floor, where you’ll find three of the four X-rays needed to solve the puzzle. After breaking a glass window to access this room, you’ll read a note and then proceed to the nurse station on the second floor.
There, you’ll find the fourth moldy X-ray. If you’ve explored enough on the first floor, you’ll have found a mold remover, which you can use to clean the X-ray. Once you’ve cleaned the X-ray by combining it with the mold remover, you’ll need to return to the X-ray room on the third floor.
Once back, place the X-ray on the lightboard to reveal the three numbers for the lock combination found in the same X-ray room.
Chain Locked Box in the Otherworld Brookhaven Hospital
One of the final locks inSilent Hill 2is not merely a single lock, but rather two distinct locks that enclose a peculiar box. The Otherworld version of Brookhaven Hospital houses this chained box.
The chained box has both a padlock and some kind of electronic lock with a numeric code. To find the electronic lock code, first head to the second floor in the laundry room of this version of the hospital.
You’ll need to move a piece of furniture blocking one of the doors, and before leaving the room, grab a cart that will come in handy later. To reach Room L3, you’ll need to use this cart and place it in the right spot.
Once inside, you’ll find a key to the hospital director’s office. After entering the director’s office with the key, you’ll need to climb some stairs to access Room 17. Once there, you’ll need to use a treatment stretcher that requires electrical power.
Go to the elevator to activate the generator, which will illuminate a code to unlock the first box part. Once you activate the treatment stretcher, the code 9659 will appear.
Go to the second-floor restroom and break a wall to get the padlock code to open the box. After breaking the wall and exploring the area, you’ll need to pay attention to clues that will give you the combination for the padlock.
First, you’ll find a paper with a text guiding you to the first digit. Then, a bathroom sink with floating pills will give you the number for the second digit.
For the third digit, you’ll need to look through a small hole in the door that shows a light. To get the number, count how many times the light flashes in each series. Finally, for the last digit, you’ll need to look through a broken window. Once you’ve gathered all the clues, the padlock code will be 1622.
