When you do decide to take out a Creeper, all you really need to do is land a single hit before it bites you. Their only attack is to bite the player and since they’re pretty slow, it’s pretty easy to take them down before they get a chance to do that.
As long as you hit them first, you’ll be fine.The handgun works well if you want to keep your distance, but a melee weapon should be enough to do the job, as it’s recommended to save your ammo for tougher foes.

Creepers aren’t that tough, and you’re able to kill them with just one hit using a melee weapon. If you don’t feel like getting close then a handgun will work too, but again, using your gun is probably a bit of overkill.
