That of, Elain, Azriel, Lucien, and the occasional addition ofGwyneth.
Sarah J. Maas Teases NewACOTARBook
Sarah J. Maas recently gave an interview withTodayfor the release of the highly anticipated third book from theCrescent Cityseries,House of Flame and Shadow.During this, the topic of her next book was brought up, and the writer mentioned that she had already been working on it. She further stated that this book with be the next part of theA Court of Thornes and Rosesseries.
“I’m very, very excited about that one,”Maas told. “I know much more about what’s happening in this one. And then the next book in that series, I have the ideas and general, vague thoughts. But the nitty gritty of writing and the emotional journeys with the characters — I usually love to go on those journeys with them.”

This is more than a little exciting for the huge fanbase that these books have created, especially considering the last book from the series was released in 2021. On top of this, there are a lot of questions that readers are hoping to get answered. The biggest one that fans have surrounds the beloved character of Azriel, the love triangle that he is involved in, between Gwyneth and Elain. And Elain’s mate, Lucien.
What Will This New Book Entail?
One of the most important and beloved parts of all of the series that Sarah J. Maas has written is the concept of mates. Synonymous with soulmates, it is a special and very rare bond that is shared between two people. Existing inThrone of Glass, between Aelin and Rowan, and Aedion with Lysandra, and has followed into the rest of her books.
This concept only adds to the romantic relationships that exist in these books, which is why readers were caught off-guard whenACOTARrevealed that Elain and Lucien, two characters who had never met before, were mates. The reason for this is the fact that Elain rejected him as her mate, something that was unheard of until now.

What only added to the story is the fact that Azriel became fond of her ever since they first met. The former had been pursuing the latter to a point that Rhysand had to caution him not to do anything. With the addition of Gwyn and her stolen glances with Shadow Singer, we get one of the most complex and messy love stories in any Maas book yet. While this entire conflict was introduced inA Court of Silver Flames, it is yet to be resolved to any degree. This is why it is expected that the next book from the series will tackle this.
What Would This New Book Bring For Elain’s Powers?
Elain’s character, outside of her romantic interests, has been a sort of mystery ever since she was turned into High-Fae. Her newfound powers consumed her entire being, many dismissed her as being crazy. That was until it was revealed that she was a Seer. Being able to predict the future through visions and images, it was stated that she was a very rare kind of Fae, having saved the lives of many through these powers.
Despite this, there is a lot of development left, not only for her powers and abilities but also for her as a character. The first four books from this series followed the story of Feyre Archeron.A Court of Silver Flamestold the story of the oldest Archeron sister, Nesta. The story that is yet to be told is that of the youngest, Elain. This is why it would make sense for Sarah J. Maas to tell her story in her new book.
