Last night we were treated to our first Nintendo Direct in almost 18 months. There was elation for some and disappointment for others but overall, it was just good to have them back. Personally, I didn’t expect anyZeldapresence during the event. Rather, I expected a standaloneThe Legend of Zeldaanniversary Direct, much like Nintendo did forSuper Mario.

Instead, what we received was news on aHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Season Passand an HD port of the Wii entry into theZeldafranchise,Skyward Sword. Nintendo did also announce a very nice set ofSkyward SwordJoy-Cons.

Rumours had been circulating for a while thatSkyward Sword, Twilight PrincessandWind Waker HDSwitch versions would be available in a single bundle. Much likeSuper Mario 3D All-Starsbut yesterday’s announcement proved that wasn’t the case. That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from churning however, and last night, theWind WakerandTwilight Princessgossip started again.

Wind Waker HD Switch Port - What are the new rumours?

The fresh rumours come fromVGCJournalist andYooka-Layleeproducer, Andy Robinson. Robinson stateed that ports of “Wind WakerandTwilight Princessare 100% coming this year.”

Do we believe the rumours?

Considering so little was shared in the way ofZeldanews, I stand by my initial thought that we will be gettinga special 35th anniversary Direct forThe Legend of Zelda. If Nintendo has two moreZeldagames they’re porting to the Switch, plus news on theBreath of the Wildsequel, it definitely makes sense they have a blowout video specifically for that.

Robinson also has plenty of experience in the industry and a strong nose for this sort of thing, so if he says it’s 100% happening, there’s a very good chance it is.

What are our thoughts on the Zelda news?

I’m a bigZeldafan but I have two giant gaps in my history of the series,Twilight PrincessandSkyward Sword.Twilight Princesscame at a time in my life when I fell out of love with Video Games andSkyward Swordwas slept on en masse. I’m excited to have the opportunity to play both of these games on my Nintendo Switch.

Then there’sWind Waker.Breath of the Wildaside,Wind Wakeris absolutely my favouriteZeldagame. The art and music are incredible, story compelling and sense of exploration grand. Despite not playing the other two games, should they all release at a similar time, this is the one I’ll play through first.
