Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remasteredis the next release inFinal Fantasy’s sister series: the SaGa series created by Akitoshi Kawazu. The game will release this winter worldwide on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. The May 31st stream mainly focused on this remaster, and also featured segments for the gacha gamesImperial SaGa EclipseandRomancing SaGa Re;univerSe.
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered Overview
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Songwas first released on PS2 in 2005, it’s a remake ofRomancing SaGa 1, released on Super Nintendo in 1992.Romancing SaGa Minstrel Songwas also ported to PS3 in 2015, but has not been re-released since then.
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Songis a turn-based JRPG with 8 different protagonists and high replayability, each playthrough being shaped by the player’s choices. Certain protagonists also react differently to the same events.
Romancing SaGa 1did not feature some of the series' iconic gameplay elements yet, like the Glimmer mechanic which lets you learn skills during battles, and the Combo system which lets you combine them. However, Romancing SaGa Minstrel Songadded these mechanics. Moreover, it is a pretty good entry point forSaGaneophytes, as it introduces all of the series' staples along with what makes it different from its sister seriesFinal Fantasy.

Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered Has An Experienced Dev Team
The staff made several important comments during the stream. Most notably howRomancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered is being developed by the core staff ofSaGa Frontier Remastered. Several systems will be added to make the game easier to play (it’s likely the speed-up function fromSaGa Frontier Remasteredwill return). New elements will be added as well.
New Elements And The Infamous Blue Saber
However, Akitoshi Kawazu stressed(starting at the 23:55 timestamp)that unlikeSaGa Frontier Remastered, which added a brand new scenario with Fuse becoming a protagonist,Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remasteredwill not have major additions. Kawazu said: “there will only be small bits added here and there”. More details will be announced soon.
The staff also specified how it’ll be easier to obtain the Blue Saber - one of the best weapons inMinstrel Song- in this remaster. Long story short, the Blue Saber is an infamous weapon amongMinstrel Songfans as the sole surefire way to obtain it will take you at least one week of resetting.
SaGa Producer Akitoshi Kawazu Teases More Remasters And New Games
Akitoshi Kawazu already stated several times in the past that Square Enix is working on a brand new SaGaconsole game. The last time Kawazu brought it up was at the end of the SaGa Series Producers Talk stream inDecember 2021. This time, he reiterated at the end of the stream that a new console game is coming, and also teased more remasters," target="_blank" rel=“noreferrer noopener nofollow”>starting at the 2:32:42 mark:
Akitoshi Kawazu:“The series is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and we were able to announce Minstrel Song Remastered this year as well. It’s all thanks to your support. There are still many other games we need to remaster, and of course, we must keep working on the new game(s) too. I hope you’ll also keep playing Imperial SaGa and Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe and support the SaGa series.”
