Developer WayForward has released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming beat' em up,River City Girls2, dedicated to one of the playable characters in the game, steel-abbed brawler Marian. The studio also discussed insight into the character via aPlayStation Blog, introducing her abilities that can be used in various ways.
Contrary to what players can expect from a grappler, Marian isn’t any slower than the other characters in River City Girls 2. She has a versatile moveset inspired by boxers and wrestlers as the developer team states that Marian is the only character that has command grabs. Even though she specializes in melee combat against singular enemies, Marian has also powerful skills allowing her to attack groups of enemies.

Marian is able to apply her Air Pancake ability to unleash a combo that launches enemies into the air and sticks them to the ground. Her moveset also includes high-flying moves which allow Marian to launch herself into a crowd of enemies. The Mind Meld, on the other hand, is another special command that can only be used when Marian is between two enemies. It enables her to grab one of these enemies and smash them face-first into each other. As seen in the gameplay trailer, Marian’s abilities contain snapshots from wrestling moves.
The most powerful ability on Marian’s hand is her KO Cutter, which dashes a straight punch to deal damage to multiple enemies. Players can charge the move by holding the button until it is unleashed to deal more damage. The development team at WayForward assured newcomers that Marian will be easy to keep up with her moveset, as she also offers unique gameplay based on melee attacks.
Having run a shop in the first game as a fan-favorite character, Marian will join the roster of playable heroes in River City Girls 2, which also includes Misako, Kyoko, Kunio, Riki, and Provie. The upcoming action-adventure game will be available onXboxOne, Xbox Series X|S,PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on December 1st, 2022.
