There are five Hidden Event Bosses in Risk of Rain Returns. Each one spawns at a very specific location when certain conditions are met. Finding them is a matter of knowing where to look and getting to the right stage variant.
Risk of Rain Returns: How To Get A Beam Drone

Unlocking Huntress’ alternative primary skill, Pierce, requires defeating three unique event bosses in one run, meaning you’re able to defeat the same boss over and over by repeating the run. This is doable as long as you don’t get unlucky with what stages you get.
Risk of Rain Returns
Acrid can be found in thetop right corner of the Sunken Tombsstage, one of the two possible maps for the third stage in any run. There will be a steel container on the top right corner of the map. Interacting with the container will spawn in Acrid.
Direseeker
Direseeker can be found on one of the variants of theMagma Barracks, one of the two possible maps for the fourth stage. Head to the bottom right corner of the map and look for alava tunnelthat continues off-screen to the right. Use the tunnel to get to the other side and the Direseeker will spawn in. Defeating him alsounlocks the Miner.
If you don’t find the Lava tunnel at the bottom right, it means you’re in the wrong variant of Magma Barracks. If you continue the run and return to the Magma Barracks again, the variant will change.
Providence
Providence can be found at theend of Contact Light, the sixth map in any run. He serves as the final boss in Risk of Rain Returns. you may reach Contact Light by selecting the right option at the teleporter at the end of the fifth map. Providence is the hardest fight in the game, so be sure to make your preparations before heading in.
The Golem of Cognation
The Golem of Cognation only spawns in theDesolate Forest Stage Variant #4. Look for an underground vine leading to the chamber with theArtifact of Cognation. Activate the two buttons to spawn the Golem of Cognation. Since this boss spawns in on one of the variants of the first stage, it should be the first one you should target if you’re looking for Hidden Event bosses to unlock Huntress’ alternate ability. If you don’t get the fourth variant of Desolate Forest, simply reset the run until you do.
Toxic Beast
The Toxic Beast can be found atBoar Beach, a hidden area in the2nd variant of the Ancient Valleymap (one of the possible maps for the third stage). Head to the top left corner of the map and look for a black bush on the snow in front of a broken fence (pictured above). Stand in front of the bush and hold up to teleport to Boar Beach. Find the teleporter in this hidden stage to spawn the Toxic Beast.
