“Creative risks and passionate storytelling have always defined who we are,” saysRespawnin a post onX, bracing the reader to receive bad news.
The studio behind Apex Legends and Titanfall is going through a rough time at the moment, doing some general ‘restructuring to focus on their core projects’ - a theme that might sound familiar if you’ve been followingBioWareas of late.

The BioWare I Loved Is Gone
The future of BioWare continues to look grim given the constant layoffs and legal issues. Hopefully, they can bounce back.
If you were hoping for Respawn to move on from Apex Legends to something new or new-to-you, you might be waiting a while.

“These decisions aren’t easy,” Respawn says, “and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected – their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today.”
As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects.

Further in the statement, Respawn reaffirms their commitment to Apex Legends in particular, vowing to deliver “bold experiences that push the boundaries of competitive play while staying true to the spirit of competition, creativity, and integrity that our community expects.”
While these exact figures were not within Respawn’s statement,Bloomberghas reported that EA’s hit their developers with another round of layoffs - one that lines up perfectly with the “difficult” time Respawn’s found itself in. Reportedly, between 300 and 400 jobs have been affected by these cuts.

To everyone who has been part of our journey - past, present, and future - thank for for making Respawn what it is. We carry your legacy with us into everything we create next.
Titanfall 3 Likely Canceled By Respawn’s Layoffs
As for the content of those ‘incubation projects’ Respawn mentioned - Respawn has not publicly commented about either one, though we do have some insight as to what exactly’s been cut.
PCGamesNspeculates that one was an “unannounced multiplayer FPS game” that we’ve gotten hints of previously.
They also point to Jeff Grubb, an industry insider who had some choice words about this news, posting as much in an X reply to Respawn’s announcement. “That Steve Fukuda project is in the bin.”
There is no Titanfall 3 – as this should make clear.
Of course, Apex Legends and Respawns Star Wars games will likely be fine. The dev teams for them will certainly feel the difficulty, but with the company’s focus shifting onto them directly, it seems unlikely we’ll end up with a Halo Infinite situation - 343 Industries has neededmore than a few kickstartsdue to back-end chaos.
If Respawn aims for stability and focus as much as they claim, we’ll likely be enjoying their games for years to come.
