“It wasn’t about being stopped in the street. For me it was, uh, I could pay off my house. That’s a huge relief, you know?”

Having struggled financially for a while, Bale found himself earning very little, even less than some of the makeup artists on set. He was even in danger of losing his house, which he shared with his sister and father.
So, when he was offered the opportunity to play Batman, his main motivation was to earn enough money to prevent his home from being taken away.
