The originalRe:ZEROnovel is still ongoing, so while the anime is ending, the franchise in itself is not.
The currently ongoing second season of theRe:Zeroanime is what we call a split cour anime series. One cour designates 10 to 13 episodes of an anime series. Split cour means that the first part is aired during a certain anime season, and the second cour is aired after a one season break.
In the case ofRe:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, the second season began its first cour on July 2020 during the Summer 2020 anime season. Then, the series took a break during the Fall 2020 anime season. And now, the second cour has started on January 2021, during the Winter 2021 anime season. This season is now ending with Episode 50.
