Quentin Tarantino is known worldwide for his legendary directing skills, making movies that are not only highly critically acclaimed but also just as wildly gripping. Even in that, there are some moments outside of his directorial skills that leave behind a mark. One such instance was his appearance inFrom Dusk Till Dawn.Almost every fan of Tarantino would know the exact scene that was ingrained in their minds.

Salma Hayek’s character is dripping wine down her thighs and it is Tarantino’s character, Richard Gecko who takes the opportunity to drink it from her toes. The scene was both controversial and iconic at the same time. Ironically enough, it is also something that connects him toNaruto.
Quentin Tarantino Could Have Loved Naruto
It is commonly seen inNarutofor the characters to wear open sandals. Whether it acts as an homage to the Japanese culture or a recreation of traditional Japanese sandals, fans have always seen the Shinobi loitering in the open-toed sandals with no proper explanation as to why or if even they are integral to the overall series.
During an interview in the bookUzumaki: The Art of Naruto(via/Film),Masashi Kishimotorevealed that Naruto and the Shinobi weren’t even supposed to wear open sandals. The initial idea had been to give them proper ninja boots. However, that idea wasn’t one to stay because of a personal preference of the mangaka. He loved toes.

There is Only 1 Anime That Has Quentin Tarantino’s Original DNA and it’s a Shame His Fans Haven’t Watched It
To give into the joy of drawing, he changed from boots to sandals, allowing himself the freedom of drawing toes as many times as he wanted to. Now, it would be peculiar to see the Shinobi in anything but open sandals. It became a staple part of the design as if one simply could not exist without the other.
Quentin Tarantino Inspired Naruto
Quentin Tarantinowas a more integral part ofNaruto’sstoryline than fans realize. At least, his influence was. Masashi Kishimoto didn’t overlook his unique moviemaking techniques. During an interview with theLos Angeles Times, the mangaka revealed that Tarantino had a way of making even the simplest sequences into those that would grip the audience’s attention.
I like the way Quentin Tarantino creates a scene using a series of close-ups or showing very cool images of a person or people walking on some ordinary street in slow motion. I wish I could achieve that kind of slow-motion effect in manga, but it’s rather difficult to draw; the only things we can play with are tones of black and white.

Kishimoto acknowledged that to adapt that kind of imagery is difficult on its own. Were there a way to easily adapt those close-ups, he would do it in a heartbeat. Not only is it about the close-ups but also of the slow motion.
Masashi Kishimoto: “I wish I could achieve” in Naruto What Quentin Tarantino Did in His Movies
There are certain limitations in drawing manga that are difficult to overcome yet Tarantino’s vision of directing was one that caught his eye in an instant. Kishimoto’s tendency to watch movies helped him a lot in makingNaruto, creating a path for just how he wanted the series to turn out visually.
Narutois available to watch on Netflix.
