The Korean-based publisherKraftonhas announced via thecompany’s latest earnings reportthat it has acquired Neon Giant, the developer studio behind the hit indie title,The Ascent. No additional details about the acquisition, including a purchase price, has yet to be provided.
“KRAFTON continues to invest in its development and service capabilities to ensure a steady pipeline of premium titles. The company announced plans to acquire Swedish studio Neon Giant (The Ascent), which is currently working on an open-world FPS game”, reads the official report.
Krafton can now add another title to its list of projects, which currently includes PvE looter shooter Project Black Budget, multiplayer action game Project Roam, and the next Sabnautica game. In addition to earning a regular income from PUBG, Krafton continues to support multiple studios like Striking Distance, Unknown Worlds, and Dreamotion to create standalone games. Krafton also made the announcement that Neon Giant’s next title is currently in development and would be an open-world first-person shooter.

The acquisition of Neon Giant means that the development team behind The Ascent will have sufficient resources to focus on new projects. From a different angle, the acquisition may speed up the development of Neon Giant’s upcoming first-person shooter game, with new members joining the team soon. The team recently released a new story DLC for,Cyber Heist, which added new locations, weapons, and combat mechanics.
Krafton also plans to establish a major studio in Canada to lead the development of an unannounced project, which will be based on the best-selling novel The Bird That Drinks Tears. According to apress releaseby Krafton, it will be a fantasy adventure game with a rich world, complex characters, and vicious creatures. Given that it will stay true to the original novel, the game will offer new ways to explore human nature, traditional archetypes, and a visceral open world. Krafton will also release The Callisto Protocol, a survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios, which launces for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 2nd.
Neon Giant will become one of Krafton’s in-house game studios, joining the others like Bluehole, RisingWings, Striking Distance, and 5minlab. The only game to the studio’s name, The Ascent, is now available to play onXboxandPlayStationconsoles and PC via Steam.
