The most average and normal-looking Gym Leader, Larry, can be found at the Medali Gym inPokemon Scarlet & Violet. He isthe Normal-TypeGym Trainer you will most likely approach halfway through yourVictory Road path.

This gym, like others, will require you tocomplete a test before you take on Larry and his team.This test will require you to go around and talk to citizens of the town of Medali and discover the correct item to order at the restaurant. You will then take on Larry in a Gym Battle. We will lead you through each step, so you’re able to easily take on the Medali Gym and earn your next badge.
Gym Test: Order The Secret Menu Item
Before you can battle Larry, you will need to complete one Gym Test. Your test will require you to’Order The Secret Menu Item.‘After you have talked to the front desk person at the Gym, you will now be able to begin your Gym Test. You will need to find 3 different Trainers around Medali who will give you different clues to figure out how to order the secret menu item.
You will want to begin byheading to the Treasure Eateryas suggested by the front desk person to find out the answer to your own clue, which is todiscover how the regulars at Treasure Eatery season their food.
When you walk inside, head to the very back of the restaurant until you spot thefirst man wearing a suit seated down at the bar. Ask him if he is a regular, and he willgive you the answer to the seasoning used, which is lemon.
Now that you’ve received your first answer, you canhead back outside.You will then be tasked with finding the three Trainers around the town who have the rest of the clues. The first one you will notice right outside the restaurant is asmall girl named Adara.Approach her, and you will begin a battle. Here are the Pokemon she has on her team:
When you defeat her, she will give you her clue tofind the odd one out at the ice cream stands.The three ice cream stands will be just to the right of Adara. You will want to approach the pink and blue one at the very end and take a look at the menu. If you scroll down to the bottom, you will seeGrilled Rice Balls. This will be your odd-one-out menu item.
The second Trainer you will find out about in Medali is ayoung guy named Santiago.Go up to him to begin your battle. His team consists of the following:
After the battle has completed, approach him again to receive his clue. He will tell you tolisten really closely to the bluebird Pokemon.This will be theSquawkabilly you will see towards the entrance of Medali on top of a person’s head.Walk up to it, and listen in on everything it has to say. Eventually,the bird will say, ‘Meedyum! Meedyum!’ or ‘Medium,’ which will be the answer to the correct size you will need to choose for the secret menu item.
The last Trainer you’re able to find in Medali will be atall girl towards the back of the town named Gisela.When you approach her, you will begin another battle. Her team consists of the following:
When the battle is over, approach her again, and she will give you her clue, which is tofind a dark spot surrounded by stairs.This will be thelarge area of stairs directly next to where you battled Gisela.Just go to the very bottom and go up to the dark gate. It will havefaint writing on it which says ‘Fire Blast.’ This will be the answer to how to cook the secret menu item.
When you have found all your clues, you can head back to Treasure Eatery. Inside,talk to the guy in a green apron at the front.The answers to each question are as follows:
You will now be able to begin your battle with Gym Leader Larry.

Gym Leader Larry
After you have given all the right answers, you will just need totalk to the man in the green apron again to begin the battle with Larry.If you want to buy some items, heal your Pokemon, or save, you will want todo it before talking to the man again.Larry is a Normal-Type Gym Leader, which only hasone Type that is Super Effective against it: Fighting.You will also want to have your Pokemon atany level above 36.
How To Beat Komala
The first Pokemon Larry will send out isKomala.This Pokemon will beLevel 35 and is a Normal/Psychic-Type.This Pokemon as a Dual-Type will beweak to any Fighting, Bug, Ghost, or Dark-Type moves.For this Pokemon, you shouldavoid a Fighting-Type as Psychic is really effective against it.If your Pokemon are significantly higher in level than Larry’s, though, you should be fine to keep a Fighting Type on the field for this one.
How To Beat Dudunsparce
The next Pokemon Larry will bring out isDudunsparce.This Pokemon will beLevel 35 and is a Normal Type.You canstick to a Fighting Type for this Pokemon, as any Fighting-Type moves should probably take Dudunsparce down in one hit or two. A few great Pokemon to bring along includeLucario, Pawmot, Hariyama, and Paldean Tauros.These are all relatively easy to find and are strong options.
How To Beat Staraptor
The last Pokemon on Larry’s team isStaraptor.This Pokemon will beLevel 36 and is a Normal/Flying-Type, with a Tera Type of Normal.Although this Pokemon is part Flying-Type, which is extremely effective against Fighting-Type, Larry willimmediately transform it to its Tera Type, which is Normal.You can choose toTerastallize your Pokemonas well to gain an additional advantagewith your Fighting-Type Pokemon. You should be able to take down Staraptor easily this way.
Rewards From Medali Gym
Now that you have completed your battle with Gym Leader Larry, you will receive a few goodies for your efforts. This includes6,480 Pokemon Dollars and TM025 (Facade).You will also now be able tocommand any Pokemon Level 45 and under.
