While most studios would jump at the prospect of creating DLC or a sequel for a game as popular asBaldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has made quite a bold decision. The company will focus on creating new content, according to CEO Swen Vincke.

This comment from 9 years ago shows Vincke proclaiming his love for theDragon Commanderfranchise. Back then, he had to shelve any plans for a sequel to the franchise due to the Kickstarter campaign forDivinity: Original Sin 2.

Dragon Commander 2 or Original Sin 3?

There is no clear-cut news or update from Larian Studios regarding its future project. But why is Larian not making a sequel toBaldur’s Gate? In aninterview at the GDC, Vincke cleared up the matter, saying,

That’s not what we were made for. That’s literally the opposite of what Larian is about. We want to do big, new things. We don’t want to rehash the thing that we’ve done already.

This sentiment will echo with most gamers, as they are tired of big studios like Bethesda and Activision Blizzard releasing similar games with rehashed mechanics, making the gaming experience boring.

Swen and his team at Larian seem pretty confident that they will be able to deliver on their promise.
