What Is Joker’s Canon Name
In the spinoff gamePersona 5: Dancing In Starlightand the official Persona 5 Anime,Joker’s real name is revealed to be Ren Amamiya. With these both being official Atlus releases, this is the closest to confirmation there is. While Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal don’t directly offer Joker’s canon name,data miners have been able to find Ren Amamiya as the default name in the game.
The Persona 5 Manga, while still officially licensed,also gives Joker the other name, Akira Kurusu.While this only appears once, it can also be considered to be his official name.

What Does Ren Amamiya Mean
The name Ren Amamiya has more meaning behind it than just a random name for the protagonist. Ren Amimiya isspelled with the Japanese characters for “Rain,” “Palace,” and “Lotus.“The first bit seems to have a literal meaning, asJoker “rains down on Palaces"all throughout the game.Lotus is a Buddhist symbol for purity and cleansing,which also follows Joker throughout the game as hecleanses society of those with twisted desires.
While the ability to choose Joker’s name is a fun addition in Persona 5 Tactica, it’s important to know that this barely affects any conversations. It’smore common for theother Phantom Thievesto refer to the protagonist as “him” or “Joker,“occasionally using the selected last name.
