Atlus released this week’s introduction trailer forPS4 exclusivePersona 5 Royal. This time it focuses on Makoto Niijima, the most popular member of the Phantom Thieves and their true leader.
Makoto’s trailer shows one ofPersona 5 Royal’s new event scenes in the January to April playable part, with Joker meeting Makoto and her big sister Sae. They’re somehow chatting about Makoto’s birthday, which is on April 23, and Sae remembers how Makoto would always force their father to cook her someaji furaion her birthdays. Makoto is embarrassed, retorting she wouldn’t force him but “ask nicely”.
Next, we see another new scene, with Makoto and Joker at the aquarium. She mentions how she was brought to an aquarium by her father when she was in grade school. Sae was supposed to join them as well but she refused back then saying she’d rather study.
Makoto’s trailer also reveals more on her Show Time combination attack with Ryuji, which was already seen in the game’svery first trailer. Makoto and Ryuji’s combination attack was born from an idea of Ryuji, who definitely thought she’d refuse at first. He got the idea as he always says Makoto’s basically a post-apocalyptic character with her bike and Phantom Thieves outfit. Hence why their duo attack is clearly inspired byHokuto no Ken, which was inspired byMad Max.
It’s interesting to note the trailer also shows the Mementos with its new white look, which was already teased before. We still don’t know why this change happens or when in the story does it happens, besides that it’s late in the game.
Makoto’s trailer ends by showing another new event scene, with the girls, Ann, Makoto, and Futaba, playing against the guys, Joker, Ryuji, and Yusuke, in a beach volleyball match. Morgana is the referee. It’s noteworthy to point out all the end scenes in the trailers so far took place in the January to April new playable part, so it’s safe to assume this new beach volleyball scene is set there as well, even if the date isn’t displayed. Then again, Haru isn’t there so it’s probably during the beach event after Futaba joins.
While we didn’t get to see Makoto’s new persona in the trailer,Ryuji’s, Ann’s and Yusuke’s new personaswere recently revealed in screenshots. The previous character introduction trailer so far includesRyuji,Ann,andYusuke.
Persona 5 Royallaunches on October 31 in Japan and in 2020 in the west.
