Path of Exilerecently introduced itsSettlers of Kalguurexpansion, which brought an exciting new challenge league and various updates. However, the expansion also introduced a significant issue that the developers at Grinding Gear Games did not anticipate.

The new Bismuth Tornadoes, linked to the elemental resource Bismuth, quickly became a problem for players. As a result, the developers at Grinding Gear Games (GGG) had to implement a hotfix to address the unexpected issue that took them and players by surprise.
Path of Exile Almost Got Broken By a New Update
The 3.25 update forPath of Exileaimed to revamp several aspects of the game, including a major overhaul of melee combat. It introduced new defensive mechanics, such as improved block passives and life leech capabilities.

But the addition that got the most attentionwas the introduction of Bismuth, an elemental resource that players needed to collect. This is because collecting Bismuth also triggered the appearance of tornadoes which did a little too much damage to players while also chasing them.
The tornadoes’ impact on gameplay was immediate and severe. Players reported that the tornadoes would often spawn directly on them, causing instant deaths with no chance of escape. This issue was particularly problematic during high-stakes moments like looting or interacting with non-playable characters.

Players expressed their dissatisfaction on forums and social media, highlighting several issues with the Bismuth Tornadoes. In response to the overwhelming feedback,Grinding Gear Gamesreleased Hotfix 10 for the 3.25 update.
The hotfix reduced the damage dealt by Bismuth Tornadoes by 33%, made them less aggressive in chasing players, and decreased their spawn frequency. Additionally, tornadoes now spawn from a greater distance, giving players more time to react.

Luckily the Path of Exile Storms Have Calmed Down
The reaction from the community to the hotfix was generally positive, with many players appreciating the developers’ responsiveness. Despite the initial frustrations, the Settlers of Kalguur expansion has gotten players hooked again. The new content and mechanics have have received praise from players.
While the hotfix shows GGG’s commitment to a balanced and enjoyable game, The issue with the Bismuth Tornadoes also highlights the importance of thorough playtesting in game development.
