The Onimusha series by Capcom reawakens with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand new title coming in 2026.
The last installment in the Onimusha series was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, which launched in 2006 exclusively for thePlayStation 2.

Since then, around 20 years have passed and many people from the younger generations of gamers haven’t played a single title in this series.
However, Capcom ensures that experiencing the older titles is not required to enjoy Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Recently, Satoru Nihei and Akihito Kadowaki, the game’s director and producer respectively, shed some more light on this upcoming title in an interview withFamitsu.
They confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is basically a reboot, a standalone story with little connection to previous Onimusha titles. So, newcomers can fully enjoy the game’s story.

The protagonist of Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Miyamoto Musashi, the real-life Japanese swordsman who lived in the 16th and 17th centuries.

On another note, it was also confirmed that, unlike the trend most AAA games are following these days,Onimusha: Way of the Sword will not be open-worldor offer endless hours of gameplay.
According to the developers, Way of the Sword will be a20-hour game with linear progression, like the older Onimusha titles.

And in terms of gameplay, it was confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will stick to the franchise roots, offering action sword-fighting sectionsas well as puzzle-like elements.
Moreover, with how Way of the Sword focuses on satisfying sword fighting and realistic feedback, depicting dismemberment and bloodshed, the producer is sure that the game will receive a CERO Z (equivalent to +18 or Mature) rating in Japan.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release sometime during 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S.
